Heated water/meat

Yes, hot meals. But the counter should also be true. Items left below 0 should acquire the "frozen" trait. Consuming would increase freezing and grant debuff "cold" that makes freezing increase while active, or be countered by "warm" buff.

Frozen items could be allowed to degrade slower, too...

Frozen water should be unusable.

oh, I like both of these ideas. Eat something you just cooked, get warmer.

Eat something that's been out in the cold for a while, get colder.

And yes, keeping food cold should slow the condition loss.

(maybe stuff some snow/ice in the freezer/ fridge to keep food fresh longer?)

Having items become hot/cold would change the game a great deal. It is no mean feat to do. They did it in Project: Zomboid, giving every item a temp. They then had to have the environment impact every item, with everything slowing returning to an outside temp given enough time.

So the outside temp impacts the building, which slowly impacts all the items inside, which slowly impacts all the items further insulated in containers. Heating a room would then slowly do the opposite, while having the outside temp trying to maintain the entropy of the cold just inches away. A system like this could also see some building retain heat better or worse depending on size and insulation values. Building with fireplaces and stoves are going to become even more important, where the other building might be relegated to the status of smoke houses and meat lockers.

If the devs DO allow for hot/cold we also have to look at the impact of cold food items not decaying as fast (or at all). Items in sealed containers that become frozen would burst too.
