more crafting, hats, tents, maps etc

I think it would be cool if we could craft a portable tent of sorts out of say 4-6 deer hides and some fir/cedar and a handful of guts. It would be reasonably heavy but provide a better portable shelter than a sleeping roll alone. Condition would obviously degrade and require repairs just like clothing.

I would also like to see the ability to craft more articles of clothing such as a hat. It would be relatively simple to make a wolf skin hat or rabbit even for that matter. I also think it would be beneficial to be able to craft garments with different hides, rewarding the owner varying degrees of quality and insulation. For instance, you can craft a coat out of any hide, rabbit, wolf, deer or bear, with the bear coat possessing the highest quality and durability. The ability to repair clothing with other types of hides would also make a lot of sense. If you have a small hole in your jacket, you could easily sew a rabbit pelt over it and expect a reasonable improvement to overall quality even if you aren't able to use the proper wolf hide. All in all the crafting system is fun right now, but as you get up in the hundreds of days, there is just nothing left to strive for, nothing to work towards and thats when the game begins to burn out for me.

Lastly, I think resources such as saplings and cattails should regenerate over time. I'm currently around 400 days and have looted 90%+ of all the maps and have harvested all the maple/birch that is provided. I'm certainly no botanist, but I think a years time would be enough to regrow some of these resources, providing the players with a more sustainable lifestyle.

edit: One last idea, it would be really awesome if we could learn a mapmaking skill. Say you put X amount of hours into your map every night and he will slowly begin to map areas you have already explored for future reference. The map would be accessible through the inventory and just be a broad overlay of the land, no HUD or anything OP like that.

Seeing as how we can actually piece apart furniture and parts of the trees it wouldnt be far fetched to have a crafting system without a table for survival shelters like a lean to or teepee etc. IF they added a building skill that allowed improvements and allowed you to EVENTUALLY build a permanent shelter this would give the long term gamers something to actually strive for and give us more choices and tools to survive.

Besides any average joe can fogure out how to build a lean to and slowly get better the more they do it.

Off topic - I noticed that there were 2 types of tool kit - Blue was normal and red was advanced (the only benefit was it was lighter if I remember correctly, and maybe it speeds up production/repair? just a guess as I don't think I've used it).

Now I'm not too sure if the devs have planned that maybe in the future we will need 'advanced/better' tools for more advanced better crafts but... on to the main topic -

+ 1 to new craftables.

With all these new craftables (Bearskin Bedroll etc) and ideas that come from this forum that might possibly get included, I was thinking that maybe we need an advanced sewing kit. Repairing a pair of gloves, patching a flismy coat and sewing up that hole in your pair of jeans etc is a fairly lightweight task on both the user and the equipment used. Trying to sew together more heavier much tougher fabric and gear (especially boots) would require a sewing kit with much much tougher needles and thread/gut. I've tried repairing a pair of running trainers before with normal sewing kit and it's not exactly easy (with flimsy sewing gear) and most of the needles and thread broke.
