Non-survival activities

Since I wasn't wanting to spoil the general topic about new activities, I would like to discuss there about all kind of non survival activites.

Someone said :

I think there should be more activities to do whilst you while away the hours either at night time or when the weather is too bad outside.

Some activity ideas:

  • Cards. Find a pack of abandoned cards and play some solo games (e.g. solitaire).
  • Darts. Discover an abandoned pub/bar in a village and play some solo darts. Darts could also be weapons for last resort attacks against wolves?
  • Reading. There are lots of books / newspapers in the world. Would be good if you were able to read these to upgrade your knowledge (which I believe is in the works anyway) or just to relax after a hard days surviving.

I would like to be able to do stuff that is not about just surviving but just something to get time getting faster, just to have something to do while i'm bored. I have this feeling that it would makes the game even more immersive.

The game with the same system is Assassin's Creed where you can play some cards games against people to win money, I would like to be able to play some kind of games, or read books, and maybe just place it on a Library like in Skyrim. Just to start a collection, idk.

What do you think, and do you have non-survival activities ideas ?

If you have any other ideas, you may reply to this topic : viewtopic.php?f=59&t=7192

Ways of waiting for a raging blizzard to pass (other than sleeping) would be greatfully recieved.

Jigsaw Puzzles - Good old, old fashioned puzzles (maybe consisting of 50 -100 pieces). They could be based on the local 'theme' (nature/wilderness/local animals etc) or could be based on anything of course, and/or hint toward the life of the people that once inhabited the area. Perhaps for certain puzzles we have to find missing pieces to complete them (a Steam achievement list for extra activities could be made).

I'd also like to see some puzzles that hint toward new/un-explored areas and maybe ones that give us a sneak peak at new gear/craftables etc.

Could also be used as tinder if it annoys you :D

In the early game, the game is all about surviving, but after establishing a base, putting aside ample stocks of food, water, tools and other supplies, it'd be nice if there was something to do as a kind of "reward" for turning a situation of survival into a 1st world problem of boredom :D

I like the ideas already posted, particularly reading newspapers for story mode since that might be one way to learn more about what has happened. I guess the downside is that it will lose its appeal over time since one can only read the same article so many times but it'd still add even more atmosphere to a game that already does such a great job with that.

As for additional ideas of my own, hmm... I actually would like it if there were more ways to customize one's base. It could be simple stuff like mounting the rifle and bow on those wall racks that some places have, or building wall racks and furniture from excess wood (extra nice if there was a way to "relax" in a chair and receive some kind of small bonus for doing so), putting books away on the shelf, or perhaps even adding a bear skin bedroll to a bed in order to give it a warmth bonus and really make it look like the home of an experienced hunter. I guess this might not be exactly the type of activity OP had in mind, but if there were lots of options to customize, I can imagine spending lots of my "dead" time just organizing and decorating my base to feel a bit more like home.

Typewriter, instant camera, Rubik's cube, vintage hand-held Tetris game, any kind of vintage hand-held game, like that one with the wolf and the eggs, since wolves are already in the game and lust for chicken eggs.

It would be awesome if this doubled as your watch

This is a big +1 for me ! I had not this in mind while I posted this thread, but I totally agree with you on the base organisation. I would like the possibility to craft furniture just to organize my stuff as I intend to do.

Jigsaw puzzles are a good idea too. I would like to put them on the walls once finished !

Glad to know I'm not the only one who likes organizing my base. :)

Actually, another thing that would be cool is if there was a (time-consuming and resource intensive) way to add insulation to a building. There are some buildings that are very cold inside but could otherwise make for halfway decent bases (e.g. the cabin in the ML area that is near the Unnamed Pond and Frozen Creek is very close to a good spot to trap rabbits). It'd be cool if animal hides/furs could be used to better insulate building and raise its inside temperature a bit. The number of hides/furs and amount of time needed to insulate could also depend on the size of the building (e.g. that cabin by the Unnamed Pond would require a modest amount whereas the Camp Office would require an immense amount). As a bonus, it would be cool if as insulation was added the appearance of the inside of the base changed so that you see furs lining the walls and floor.

+1 in general, and love the idea of a puzzle

So very often I've wanted to just "spend an evening sitting in front of the fire", kicking back in a chair and relaxing for a bit... maybe granting a slight benefit the following day, as I'm mentally a bit extra renewed and "ready to face another day" so to speak...

While technically it would be "survival oriented", I'd also like to see something like "research" as a longer-term something to do during downtime. Something like, "Design better boots" - maybe you have to use some deer hides, rabbit furs, and guts that get wasted as you experiment with different design ideas -- but after 100 hours of trial and error, you "unlock" the crafting recipe for improved boots (maybe only have a tiny heat/wind improvement, but are more sturdy against degrading in the wind, etc).

+1 for the puzzle. Great idea! TLD artwork, scenery from the different regions...or maybe even finding all the pieces of a map for an area to piece it together before you can add it to your inventory.

I was once trapped in a cave by blizzard before I realized I had left the bedroll elsewhere and had nothing to fastforward the game after I had consumed all the fuel for boiling water!

I had to wait some 40 minutes in real life time before the blizzard and the night passed! That killed the fun.

That's a GREAT example of why something to pass the time is needed! Thanks for sharing!
