IIllytch321 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 I've had this happen on numerous occassions and perhaps it's made to behave this way, but it's quite troubling if it is, heh:When I've built a fire and it has about 10 minutes left, I'll throw more than 10 sticks in the fire as fuel. For each stick throw in I get all the cues that it's accepting it as fuel, but the duration doesn't change. The fire has died into embers two times like this. By design? This I'm kind of confused about and my memory may be playing tricks on me, but I found myself with an empty jerry can after refueling my lamp, so I stuck it in a container. Later I found another lamp and harvested it with the jerry can in my inventory to catch the fuel. I then, if memory serves me correct, refueled my other lamp and the jerry can disappeared after it became empty. I'd think, in order to catch the harvested fuel, you'd need to leave the can as something that isn't used up, right? This was from another post of mine elsewhere:When selecting a food item to cook in a fire, the moment I go to click on an item to cook, it is greyed out and won't select all the time; it's very inconsistent, sometimes it selects and sometimes it doesn't unless you play around with the cursor a bit. It almost seems like the selection box isn't on the entire word, but rather half of the word or some parts of the word. I don't know how else to explain it. However, if I use the mouse scroll wheel or the w/s keys (as there's an issue using my bound up/down keys, which has already been noted by you guys), selecting the item works every time.
SteveP Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Outdoor fires that burn away quickly are caused by the wind coming up. You have to move your fire. It doesn't matter how much wood you add; this fire is burning out fast. When harvesting a lantern, the spare fuel seems to transfer to another lantern or jerry can.
IIllytch321 Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Thanks for your input.Ok, the fire I can understand, I just wanted to make sure, heh. Now I'll need to do some research with a few fires and see where this cutoff point may lie where a dying fire no longer accepts fuel.I understand what you said about the lantern harvesting, but I was specifically describing a case (possibly in an awkward manner) where my jerry can disappeared after I used all the gas that was inside it after refueling a lantern. This confused me, as, per your insight and my original post, one would need the jerry can to be a static item in order to catch the harvested fuel from a lantern. Or does the jerry can simply pop into existence when "catching" harvested fuel from a lantern?Regarding the third paragraph in the original post, it seems other people have mentioned how difficult the "Boil Water" and "Melt Snow" selections are when clicking in the fire menu. This is the identical issue I described, except I was talking about a different part of the fire menu, specifically the cooking list. It seems all these styles of lists are giving a few people issues when we choose to click on the words to select them.
selfless Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Ok, the fire I can understand, I just wanted to make sure, heh. Now I'll need to do some research with a few fires and see where this cutoff point may lie where a dying fire no longer accepts fuel..When blown by wind a fire caps at 9 minutes of life. No other indication that wind is blowing on a fire is given. Add as much fuel as you like, but a wind blown fire will not grow past 9 minutes. Type of fuel does not matter.I understand what you said about the lantern harvesting, but I was specifically describing a case (possibly in an awkward manner) where my jerry can disappeared after I used all the gas that was inside it after refueling a lantern. Or does the jerry can simply pop into existence when "catching" harvested fuel from a lantern?Jerry cans and lantern fuel bottles are odd. They cannot be poured into one another and only exist while they are not empty. The only way to get more fuel into a jerry can and/or lantern fuel bottle is to harvest a lantern that has fuel still in it. Fuel from harvested lanterns will also be caught by other not full lanterns in inventory if no jerry can or lantern fuel bottle space is available. Still it is possible to have a situation of needing a can to hold fuel but not having it because it was just discarded for being empty. Silly, really, when water and dirty water are able to be carried without any containers at all... Regarding the third paragraph in the original post, it seems other people have mentioned how difficult the "Boil Water" and "Melt Snow" selections are when clicking in the fire menu. Sometimes scroll is the right way to select items. Sometimes scroll is not available and cursor selection is required. Until it gets figured out, its best to use scroll when you can.
IIllytch321 Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Thanks for the input on fire burning times.". . . when water and dirty water are able to be carried without any containers at all. . ." I think you said it right there. Maybe there was a programming disconnect somewhere.True, once you select an item on this style of list you can easily use the forward/back movement keys (at least if they're not bound to the arrow keys currently; they're working on that I was told) or use the mouse wheel to easily scroll among them. I know these are minor inconsistencies, but fans of immersion can be like that. We mean no harm, heh.
Jeremy JPOW Powell Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 The fire question seems answered, so I'll delve into the other 2.I can see why the Jerry can thing can be confusing, i don't really have an explanation for it except that I can pass the feedback onto the rest of the team and see what they think. The issue with the fire menu, I'll look into. I haven't had troubles with it yet, but I'll play around and see what I can come up with. I'll pass it onto tech anyways, maybe they can put some safeties in just in case.Jeremy
