MiniNightmare36 Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Show the time it takes to cook food as well as the time it takes to melt and boil snow and water.
Maninpants Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 +1 plus I would also like to be able to cook maybe 2 TINS at once. Yes cooking 2 massive sets of ribs might be too big to fit on the fire but being able to cook up 2 tins or 1 tin and a coffee, these seem more realistic.
Espiritdecorp Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Yes please.I cant tell you how annoying it is trying to guesstimate how long it takes to cook or boil stuff... I mean yea irl there are lots of factors to take in so it wont always cook the same. But in a game it's kinda nice to know the average at least. Was kinda thinking maybe having stuff cook in Real time (or at least the option to). I mean yea you have to wait for stuff to finish but while that's going on you can do other stuff in the meanwhile. And the real time stuff should apply to other things as well like harvesting and crafting. obviously a lot of the stuff that takes like days to complete would have the option to fast forward or something but for simple things that only take 30 to 40 mins or something in that same time you can cook some food (or heat up some stuff) and maybe go forage for some more wood to feed the fire. as soon as your back you can add more fire and then get the food. Multi tasking is important to survival after all.
Maninpants Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 +1 @ EspiritdecorpI know that cooking using a fire is different than say using an oven (where you can sort of just leave stuff) but we should be able to maybe fix an item of clothing or do something else whilst cooking or boiling water.
Vagos Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Please also allow bundle cooking, its very annoying to wait for a single piece to cook and then cook another, and another, and another, waiting each time for the cook bar to fill.
Majales Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Show the time it takes to cook food as well as the time it takes to melt and boil snow and water. You know how long your fire will be burning before and after cooking/melting/boiling. Just do your math
AmericanSteel Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I would like some way to see the fire dying down or see some sort of countdown clock to let me know how the fire is doing and then let me act. If I have an hour an hour left of fire and I put 1.3 gal of snow to melt, the time on the fire runs out before the snow is completely melted (I actually end my fires this way, so I get every bit of useful heat out of the flame). Since I am standing there I should be able to put more wood on the fire if I wished, instead of standing frozen as I watch they last ember of the fire die away before my task is complete. At the very least I would like some sort of check when I start the job. An audible cue, "Not enough wood on the fire left to get this done" and/or a not enough wood message. Then I could carry on with my task or toss more wood in the fire.
Liverbubble Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I agree with all of this, I actualy mentioned out a while ago, its good other people have the same issue.
sir ice Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 i know right. id also like to be able to cook a portion of an item and split it into 2.
Mr GLitch Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 +1I know a can of tomato soup has cooking instructions on the back with an estimated time to cook.
nicko Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I think the current fire/cooking works great. it's not hard to figure out when you do it so often.I believe the idea is you build a fire, you get to see how hot its burning and for how long it will last. Therefore it' up to you to cook food or boil water depending on how long your fire is going to last. Pretty simple really? If you have lots of meat to cook just add more fire wood, cook some, step back and see how long your fire it going to last, if long enough cook more! if not add more fire wood, then cook more. You soon get the hang of how much wood to add and how long you need to boil say 1lrt of water.
