Spiros Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Salutations,I cannot emphasize my excitement when I found out The Long Dark was being ported to the Xbox. Not having a rig that could support really any game other than solitaire. Now, being able to partake in this beautifully crafted world is glorious.I just bought this game the other day, though it's already so easy to get lost in it (literally, and figuratively). The atmosphere really pulls you in, you start to truly care for your survivor, almost living vicariously through him/her. The unique landscape really helps when trekking for long distances. Being able to efficiently use landmarks is a must without a physical map on hand. All in all, superb game devs! Extraordinary for supporting Xbox. Really looking forward to what the future holds for The Long Dark.Side note: Finally found a hunting rifle after over 11 days of survival.
bethany Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Hey there! Always glad to have new players join us, and happy to hear you're enjoying the game. What are you finding most challenging/most rewarding so far? I bet finding that rifle felt pretty good Welcome to the community!

(you would have seen the rifle rounds loading animation) I've seen a lot of players (including long time stalker mode players) forget that step, and then getting a fun surprise and "oh ****" moment when they hear CLICK!
LucidFugue Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Happened to me the other day too! I think the rifle gets unloaded when you repair it? That would make sense, but caught me by surprise.

What are you finding most challenging/most rewarding so far? I bet finding that rifle felt pretty good Welcome to the community!Hi Bethany,The learning process of how the weather, and wildlife reacts is a nice challenge. Making a trip to the top of a mountain to survey the land on what was initially a nice clear day, only to have a foggy snow storm roll through upon reaching the peak makes things quite interesting. The wolves gave me a good struggle, I found myself switching to the Pilgrim setting for this play through. What would be interesting is if not all the wolves would become hostile. Perhaps a 50/50 while wondering, and maybe 75-90% agro if they are eating a kill. One of the more rewarding aspects to me, (aside from finding that rifle, yes it felt amazing. I've never been so relieved to come across one in a game before) is the discovery of resource rich locations. Being able to stockpile a good portion of food, water, and wood. It's reassuring knowing that you have a nice assortment of important items (at least for the time being). Which brings me to a question I had, maybe someone knows. Are there any resources that are automatically renewable? For instance, do tree limbs reappear on the ground after harvesting an area?Just curious as to whether or not one can get to a point of not just surviving, but thriving. Seems like some materials like rifle rounds, and metal scraps may be in limited quantity.

Learning to read the signs pointing to a change in weather was a fun part of the challenge for me as well. To answer this question: Yes, the limbs and branches will respawn. Other plants and man-made items (general gear/loot) will not respawn. Metal scraps are limited as individual pick-ups, but you can harvest items like old storm lanterns to get more. Clothing can be harvested to make cloth/bandages. You'll find it possible to utilize certain resources in multiple ways, and that will be a big factor in helping you survive long-term.
CCbreaker Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 You can use cloth to make bandages? I'm on the Xbox edition and didn't see that as an option. I was going to suggest it as a addition to the game.
