During a fight with wolf damage stuck at 0%

A wolf attacked me near the campfire while I was swinging torch at it. During the fight no matter how fast I clicked, the bar wouldn't fill up. It's like it kept resetting every millisecond. When my health dropped to zero, the "getting up" animation began to play with the wolf standing nearby. Then the wolf instantly attacked again and I finally died.

That shouldn't be happening. Were you still in the swing animation when the wolf struggle began?

Since I was "panic swinging", I guess it was on.
