Is 'Alone' Relative?

Maybe we can have an option on the Sandbox mode for a buddy to join us as one of three choices: through thick and thin [spawns beside you], lost [spawns a;way; random location] or dog-eat-dog [random spawn; can become allies, can become an opponent]

More thoughts on the co-op/pvp brainstorm

----

Thick & Thin [TNT]--Survivors spawn next to one another, limited supplies... Increased difficulty; No respawns.

LOST!--One, or more, survivor(s) spawn(s) hurt [as a group or scattered individually] away from the main survivor, or group of survivors, [host/host's party] and the main survivor, or group, must find them and bring them aid--and, then, survive with them for as long as possible, or until 'help' arrives. No respawns.

Dog-Eat-Dog--All survivors spawn in separate locations and can either choose to help one another survive or help them to meet their demise... Last man standing game-type. No respawns.

The game is very specifically designed for single player only, with no current plans to make it multiplayer or coop (a lot of the game mechanics and timeshifting don't allow for it). However story mode will have full NPC interaction, so you won't always be alone. :)

maybe ideas to table for a sequel...

Sequels are planned, so it's a possibility for future editions...

For this first game though single player only mode was specifically decided from the start due to budgets, initial dev team size, and in order to build the foundation of the game base.

Survival games are plentiful now, but when The Long Dark was first proposed, almost everything was fast action mass zombie attack multiplayer shooters. Games like Dear Esther or Miasmata were pretty much the rarities at the time. A lot of critics even said there would be no mass appeal or repeat playability for a game like The Long Dark because modern players only wanted fast action games -- Hinterland really proved the doubters wrong :D

I am loving the version that's on the Xbox One, now... I am so excited for the day it updates and I get to see a little more; I played the preview and, after my 60 mins of bliss, I made sure to purchase it, so I could pour even more of my time into it.

I know how that is: (See: State of Decay). That said, I'd love to see the PC modding community work their magic with making a multiplayer mod. Or the developers making a new game with Co-op as an option.

Same here! Having a blast, though I have to check my pants every now and then after a wolf/bear attack.
