Sleep/relax anywhere even without a bedroll?

Recommended Posts

I would like to sleep or even relax (not actually sleep) without a bedroll if the situation requires. I wouldn't even care if no fatigue is recovered as long as new fatigue is not added while resting.

In my game last night, I ended up someplace indoors just before dark, then realized I'd left my bedroll at "home" and there were no beds there, so I couldn't go to sleep. It was a very Looong Daark night indeed.

I think it would be a nice addition, especially since bedrolls give a warmth bonus now. So allow sleeping without them, removing warmth bonus, and perhaps making it only replenish ones fatigue at like 3/4 or 2/3 the rate of when using a bed/bedroll. Could always toss in a small system which causes stiff muscles when sleeping without a bedroll, increasing odds of sprains. But that might be a step too much, just figured I'd mention it too.

How about if your fatigue maxes out you lose a bit of condition but then you fall asleep wherever you are on the floor. Even outside!

Condition is a measure of your reserves and how long you can survive when you aren't treating yourself properly. Passing out anywhere for whatever reason is a death sentence. It sounds like what you are suggesting is what happens at condition 0.

In terms of game mechanics, I see the above suggestion similar to asking to automatically eat whatever you have, regardless of if it's raw meat or not. Automatically drinking non-potable water if you haven't gotten around to purifying it yet. Automatically starting a fire in the middle of a blizzard because you're cold. None of these are appealing to me, nor would be passing out because I yawned an hour before.

+10 Absolutely. Can't count how many times I've wanted my character to just sit on the floor in front of a fireplace or stove for a while.

+1 I had same experience as well forgot my bedroll. So just had to pass time tweaking my cloth upgrades, drinking lots of coffee and collection some more wood to boil more water. Seem to help time go quicker :)

also some cabins have chairs would be neat to just sit on one and rest for while :) rocking chair would be cool haha.

+11 on main thread.

The only questions that I have are:

1) Should the game save?

2) In what increments can you rest (only 1 hour, 2 hours etc. or less?)

Obviously 1 and 2 are connected. If you can rest for only 10 minutes the game should NOT save to avoid people misusing the rest mechanic to save (and then try something stupid). If it is in increments of 1 hour like sleeping then it should be okay to let the game save.

I think removing the load button and saving the game on exit is a good idea, however there is one huge problem that needs to be solved first: what if you get stuck somewhere? I've gotten stuck in the levels several times. Now you can solve that by reloading. But if the load button is removed so you have to quit to reload and quiting means saving, you're stuck forever. You would need to start a new game.

This is probably exactly why this is still in place. I can see this changing upon game release into save&quit, but it still should save when something bad happens/you sleep. Otherwise people will just rage-quit(alt+f4) and load their game.

I pity the guy who got stuck and was attacked by a wolf.

That actually happened to me on my first trip in PV. On the road towards the farmstead there was a place where you can fall through the road. You can walk out of it if you know the right spot where you can walk up a snow bank that extends below the road, but I didn't know that at the time.

I walked into that spot while I had a wolf on my tail. I got trapped and the wolf was on me before I knew it. It almost killed me but I fought it off. But I couldn't get out of the hole at that time and I gave up and started a new game. I was only a few days into that game so it was not really a big deal. Later I learned I could have walked out of there had I had the patience to try a little harder.

Hi folks,

I second this too.

I have just died after 64 days because of the inability to sleep without a bedroll (in a cave) yesterday. Well, to be honest, not entirely because of this. First, I forgot the bedroll in my "base" (Pleasant Valley - Farmstead) for some reason and then went on a longer, otherwise well prepared, journey. Second, I ignored the call of intuition to get some sleep in the Draft Dodger's Cabin. I then went further, got attacked by first wolf, then a second one (missed both of them with the bow) and patched myself up. After that, I, frozen, tired, with 7 % health, went to the nearest cave and died in there, waiting for some miracle to happen. Well, not a pleasant night in a Pleasant Valley :)...
