Save Recovery?

So is there literally no way at all to recover progress? I apparently failed to close the game having it only minimised which resulted in me dying on day 32, so now I've basically lost a full week of intensive gameplay...

At the very least should there not be an auto-pause when the game is not the active window...

None that I know of, no.

if you press the escape button it brings up the menu, then if you alt-tab to another screen it leaves the game essentially paused on the menu

nope it seems not just save by going to a cabin or sleep for an hour, then quit.

atm my load games dont even load v244 alpha

Sorry, no! Permadeath is a system we utilize, and we don't see it going anywhere any time soon. Be careful with those minimized windows! Sorry you had to find out the hard way.
