Unbalanced Fall Damage

Hey,

While I was exploring Mystery Lake, I found my way into the Ravine area and decided I would try to scale it down, since I had never properly explored it. So, very slowly I inched my way down mild slopes, at 30 degree angles or so, trying to gradually descend, when suddenly I died from "falling and internal bleeding", despite having not fallen at all, I was moving laterally.

Is there a killzone in the ravine making it inaccessible? Or did I just pick a route that was programmed to make you drop and fall to your demise?

Yes, there is a no-go killzone climbing down the Ravine cliffs... while it looks like you're just falling a very short distance, you're actually slipping and falling right to the bottom.
