We'll be launching the new Hinterland Store soon. Unfortunately, we just received notice that Canada Post workers are now on strike, as of yesterday. We have no idea how long this labour action will last.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/canada-post-strike-faq-1.7384539

Rather than delay reopening the store (again), we plan to launch it and allow orders to be made. Shipping will be delayed as a result of the strike.

We are looking into providing other non-Canada Post shipping options, but we so far have always deferred to Canada Post as it's the most cost-effective option for our customers. If we can find some good alternatives, we will enable them in the store so that folks can still buy and have stuff shipped to them, but the shipping might be more expensive. We also want to be respectful of this strike action by Canada Post workers.

We will honour all orders made, of course -- it just means that there might be an indeterminate delay on how long it may take before the items can get shipped out to you. Feel free to hold off on ordering until Canada Post's labour action is resolved. We intend to keep the store well stocked and will continue re-ordering items so if you opt to wait this round you will have another opportunity to purchase items in the future. So don't panic if you decide to hold off ordering -- you will have another chance!

We will also continue to add new items to the store, so if you don't see something you are hoping to see when the store launches, don't worry, we have big plans to continue adding to our store offerings over time.

I think it's safe to assume that the strike action also means it may not be possible to get items out in time for the holidays, so if you are planning to buy Hinterland merch items as holiday gifts, you might have to think of a new plan, or accept that they may come later than hoped for.

(Also -- please don't fill this thread with requests for alternative shipping options if you are in Europe, UK, Asia, etc. We are working on some stuff around that but it's not ready yet.)

Thank you for the update .. it's much appreciated..

I'm happy to wait until things have been resolved...

(It'll also give me time to make room in my very full house for the new stuff😁)

When I was a kid, and USPS shipping always took *forever* anyway, Mom & Dad would cut out a picture of what they had ordered from the catalogue (yes, big shiny paper catalogues!), laminate it, stick it in a small box, that they stuck in a bigger box, that they stuck in a bigger box, that they stuck in another bigger box. Each one wrapped, so we got to unwrap a bunch of boxes before getting to the "The Yuletide Fairy who was supposed to bring this got distracted by an elf, so she's running a little bit late..." or similar silly message they would put in the last box with the laminated catalogue picture.

Thanks for the update Raph. It sucks, but you don't control the postal service. Hopefully the strike will not go on too long.

Heh I want to buy the things, I keep looking for the store. I'm cool with the wait. Shipping is interesting at the best of times.

Raphael -- we have to stop accepting orders at HQ. We have no way of getting them to the mainland but we still need to tell people that, or they'll know we've been holding on to it all this time. Find some excuse. Whenever you can, encourage people to use FedEx if they can afford it. I'll keep my eyes open for the mail van but I don't hold out high hopes. I imagine Jack probably drove it into a tree again, somewhere way in the back 40. We're likely to never find it back. Damn I should have stopped him from taking the truck while he was on the drink. I'll see what I can do to fix the situation. Hold tight.

The US may be (DEFINITELY) going down the tubes, but our Postal Service is (mostly) functional and ready to SHIP!

THE APOCALYPSE DOWN HERE IS ANYTHING BUT QUIET, AND MAMA NEEDS A MUG.

Maybe not intended but it was seen as that and I have to respond to reports appropriately.

I was looking for why Canada Post workers are on strike and found this video, which I thought was interesting.

Apparently one of the reasons is that management seems to want to increase the time that workers spend outdoors in the Canadian cold. And yeah, well, we all know how that would feel, don't we. If I was walking around all day on icy roads in -30° weather, wolves or not, I'd want a decent wage, too. Plus perhaps some sticks and coal for camp fires, with a nice mug of hot coffee! :fire: :coffee:

Hopefully they'll come to an agreement that works for them.
