Cr41g Posted November 4 Posted November 4 For as long as I have been playing I have never had this happen before.. I was attacked by a Timberwolf on the top deck of Pensive Lookout in BI.. I literally almost shit myself lol… anyone else had this happen.. this is my blood, his blood in the photo 1
Leeanda Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I haven't been attacked myself but I have seem them chase someone up there a few times.. very rarely a regular wolf at mystery lakes too. 1
Veskaida Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Wow! I've never seen a timberwolf actually up on the woodwork in BI like that. I wonder if it was a bug and somehow a timberwolf spawned up there. Timberwolves definitely can get up onto that snowy 'ledge' which the watchtower is built on, but I've always assumed myself safe as soon as I start climbing the wooden steps. Spooky! Similarly, in Blackrock near Bricklayer's retreat for example, timberwolves never seem capable of getting up and onto the wooden dock by the frozen-over lake there.
Cr41g Posted November 4 Author Posted November 4 definitely didn't spawn in...I watched him climb the steps all the way to the top. I had just arrived in BI and ran the gauntlet to the lookout... which got their ire. I unloaded my stuff and spent 4 hours reading Gunsmithing... when I was done they were STILL carrying on despite the time passing. So I went out to have a peak for the climbing rope, and watched them run at the lookout. Then I noticed one would climb the steps, which I had not seen before and progressively they would climb higher up the steps and I would retreat indoors, they would go back down until I came out again. I thought to myself I'm just going to stand here and not retreat just to "see" how far they would come up... and well... 1
rush247 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) Been attacked on the first or second run of stairs but never the top. I've seen them glitch out and get pulled down to the bottom after I get up to the third and I assumed that always happens. Edited November 4 by rush247
Kranium Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I've seen them climb at least partway up the stairs when I'm sniping them from the top. It happens. IDK if they go all the way up, though. I always pop back inside so they'll move off a distance, then start I sniping again. haha 1
Pencil Posted November 6 Posted November 6 They don't normally do it but they can get up the steps. Bears and normal wolves can climb those steps, too (although the bear takes a while to make all of those sharp turns lol). They will come up the stairs but I've never seen one come off of the stairs around the house part; they usually run away before that. But I don't doubt that it's possible for them to get clear to the top. 1

I forget which patch it was precisely, but I think it was the Zone of Contamination patch which resulted in a number of changes to (wolf especially) behavior, namely line of sight, campfire behavior, and pathfinding; so it's clear Hinterlands has been tweaking wildlife AI over the last year or so. I wonder if this is novel behavior as the result of some changes, since I haven't even seen mentions of wolves/timberwolves entering these areas before in many years of playing TLD. Either that or it's always been the case but has just been exceedingly unlikely/rare. I wonder if this will have ramifications elsewhere, like making it necessary to close those Lookout Tower doors to be 100% safe, or fishing hut doors, etc. 1
I_eat_only_wolf_meat Posted November 6 Posted November 6 They can definitely get up a few flights of the stairs. I've seen it many times. I have not ever seen them get all the way to the top.
