Recently I came across a post from Raphael that mentioned that we are not playing as Will or Astrid in survival mode.

Now, I always name my characters different names than Will or Astrid because that's always been logical to me.

But what I think would be cool is Hinterland could add some way to at least allow us to customize the looks of our characters.

Eye Color/Facial Hair/Hair Style/Skin Color that kind of thing be adjustable by slider or some such.

I'm also a voice actor, and sometimes when I do let's plays I will record using an accent I can reliably reproduce- my old British Accent/Irish/Australian/Austrian etc. but usually it slips away because it's enough to play a character let alone play and talk as one.

So some way to record new lines and add them to the game when you select a different custom character would be really nice- thoughts?

I could see that it works on computer, but what about consoles?

Like for the eyes have rotating artwork that switches with left or right bumper or whatever. I don't play with my gamepad much at all though I do do it to add difficulty from time to time.

Many games give you that option but usually before you start playing.. but the only time we see them is if we need to check our clothes etc after we start playing a save..wouldn't this involve a new system somewhere?

Perhaps.

I'm hoping adding voices for new survivor voice overs will be something supported by modding.

Also, creating a series of survivor paper dolls to choose from should be possible.

I did wonder about modding...     I'm surprised it's not on their radar already actually

If it's just the voice though it could still be added when you choose between male/female at the start of the run..   no idea how easy it'd be to implement though.

Technically I haven't talked to my modding folks about it.

Time to ask I guess.

As for more paper dolls I will probably ask them that too.

My guess is that paper dolls will be easier than a voice pack to implement.

I could see them using already existing character models from Wintermute, as the paper doll, with matching skin color on the hands in first person view. But it isn't "easy", like just flipping a switch. It will cost time and money to pay devs to do the work, without any guarantee of generating new sales of the game. Complete character customization- eye color, hair color, hairstyle, skin color, body style- that a whole lot of work. I wouldn't count on it- I honestly don't see any financial benefit to HL and the people they employ.

Modding- perhaps? But it may end up being something only PC players will be able to use, just like current mods are only available to PC players. Modding for consoles is way more difficult, and some consoles like Switch may not allow it at all.

Yeah, that is likely.

IMHO, I would prefer that they finish this game up completely, and move on to the next game or games. Maybe new small DLCs in the future, but making more major changes to the game (Survival Mode and/or Wintermute) right now just doesn't make sense to me.

Currently the visibility of the character's appearance is limited to the view of the costume and hands when you perform a task, so I do not find it very interesting.
