johan89 Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) I like playing custom difficulty mode a lot, but I noticed some time back that it wasn't progressing my badges or achievements (at least I think it was both of them? if it's only one or the other, my bad). Since TLD is a single-player game and not competitive, I don't see any real reason why "but you can make the game too easy and cheese the badges/achievements!" would be a reasonable opinion. I'm instead stuck playing on the way-too-easy mode to progress badges, when I actually want to be playing on interloper type difficulty to get my badges/achievements, just because what I actually want to be playing is interloper without the animal attacks. So I hope it can be noted that there's no real reason to prevent players from cheesing badge/achievements due to it not being competitive, and that most players don't want to do that to begin with so it's really not something to focus on rather than letting people play their own way in custom mode and earn the same rewards for it. (I have PTSD and it's a bit too stressful for me to handle the jumpscares or animal attacks in general, I prefer the slow horror of running out of resources or watching the temperature drop too low without knowing where to get shelter. Walking in a storm at night and losing your way, desperately trying to get a fire running behind a tree, all of those things are really fun to play without animal attacks. I really love TLD, one of my top fav games ever, and we've always had the easy-mode without animal attacks, so I'm not alone in this playing style. One of my favourite things was an old event mode where the temperature was set to be extremely cold, I also wish that would return as a setting.) Edited October 21 by johan89 2
Leeanda Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) Achievements can be earned on custom,I got my living off the land on a custom pilgrim a few weeks ago.. I do think some have to be vanilla though ,like survive interloper for one day.. so maybe a bit confusing in some cases.. Edited October 21 by Leeanda 1

Yeah, if so its likely only the badge progress (starting fires, running, etc). I don't think "survive interloper" is especially confusing, it's fine that some achievements are for specific modes.
Leeanda Posted October 22 Posted October 22 I didn't mean that one specifically.. bad example really.. the open the boxes in Milton one was more what I was thinking of.. I've never had that achievement despite doing it multiple times in survival, and I'm pretty sure on winter mute too.. But yes,I think it is just the badges that are only for vanilla. 2

Generally people use "badge" interchangeably with "Feat" since they are found under the Challenges > Badges subcategory, in the Feats sub-subcategory. Though I guess some people use "badge" interchangeably with "Achievement/Trophy". Yeah, it's confusing. 3

Lexilogo Posted October 22 Posted October 22 I absolutely agree with this, IMO if something can be unlocked on Pilgrim, it should be available on Custom as well. I think the Feat unlocks being so grindy and outlawed on Custom disencourages new players from actually using Custom settings.

Raph said in the Dev Dairy that they're planning on doing a major overhauling of the Custom Settings Toolbox. Maybe allowing Feat Progression under specific settings (not easier than vanilla Pilgrim) will be part of that.
xanna Posted October 23 Posted October 23 I really hope so, but also think that if that were the case they would have said so already - it's such a common complaint from us Custom players, they know people want it, so it would be news? But maybe not. Every update ha come with loads of cool changes that weren't advertised ahead of time. Fingers crossed, anyway 🤞
