I know they are swamped with the development of the dlc and the ep5 but I really miss the good old days of 4don and halloween events. Hope they make another event when they get their hands free!

Have a great day!

Would like to see a Christmas theme in the future. Coffee gets swapped for hot chocolate. A Santa hat you can wear. Some decorated lights during the aurora (white, red, green). Just some ideas.

I only got to participate in 2 (technically 3 but idk if Darkwalker counts as it's official) seasonal events before they went down, so I really miss them. Especially the unique items and weather. I'd love for them to at least add more custom settings to possibly recreate the events better, as eternal night is cool, but there's no option for endless weather, or colder indoor temps.

I made a Wishlist request a while ago to let us make Pumpkin pie in the base game as a cook-able food, possibly using canned pumpkin or something, so that the food item isn't eventually lost to time.

Either way, I too miss the events, and hope they at least send TLD off with one more, when the DLC and Episode 5 is done.

You can download a Halloween mod and pretend it's a seasonal event.

Provided you are playing on PC, running a supported OS, and on a supported platform. Console players are basically SOL- there are no mods for Switch/PS4-5/XBox.

I kind of miss the original 4DoN events, kind of. They were fun, but not something I want to play over and over year-round. Though I do see the appeal for other people. I wouldn't mind a yearly event that ran for the last 2 weeks of October that we could opt into or skip, though. But only after Wintermute Episode 5 is done, and the TFTFT DLC is finished.

While that may be appealing to some people, the religious and possibly political drama that could stir up could make that a hot potato for HL. The game is played around the world, and while Halloween (Samhain) does have some religious or cultural meaning for some of us, it is so common a theme in horror games and movies that not too many people get bent over it. But religious holidays like Easter or Christmas or Hanukkah or Ramadan or Diwali or other religious holidays- yeah. There are people who will not appreciate one religious holiday being "special" in the game ("Special Event"), while the holiday(s) they celebrate are not. That's just asking to open up a can of (angry/reactionary) worms.

I've seen a few games that have seasonal content ,be it Easter Christmas or whatever and never seen any problems caused by them... They are of course up to the player whether they want to actually use the decorations etc or not so maybe as an optional dlc..

I'd so love some lights at the farm, pumpkins and even a Christmas tree at trappers..

BTW I'm from Turkiye and I don't mind any christmas decorations or halloween events. People tend to be offended or triggered by everything these days. They just don't even try to be happy.

Apparently it is copyright protected here in the US. So I have no clue what it is about or what it shows.

That's good that it would not offend you. It would not offend me either, though it seems that you are suggesting it might. It could potentially offend or upset other people, though. And HL has to consider more than just your singular opinion, or mine. And the game has had Christmas decorations in the past- the fairy lights strung up in several buildings over the Christmas and New Years holiday season. But no special holiday event similar to 4DoN.

The subject of a Christmas event has been discussed quite a few times over the years, at least on Steam, but I suspect searching the Wish List subforum here will find a few older threads about it as well:

That's correct. So far, only Bethesda's games have modding support which is a wild fact considering the fact that the gaming industry has progressed far for PC but not for consoles.

I don't think this is a real issue. The "War on Christmas" debate about how religious Christmas is/should be being a point of controversy is mostly an American thing, and the angry people in American media who used to yell about it seem to have found other victims to yell at instead nowadays. I think most people consider things like Santa, christmas trees and stockings to be more or less secular and this wouldn't cause much controversy, much like the hundreds of other games that do Christmas events don't really get any heat for it, or other very specific cultural events like Thanksgiving/Chinese New Year.

And obviously, Xmas decorations fit TLD pretty well, so when base customisation gets added, I really wouldn't mind some of that base decoration allowing for a festive feel.

With that said, I don't like it when games that aren't "live services" implement limited time content like this, at least the standard corny "play within the next 2 weeks for a santa hat!" stuff. I don't see the point in creating FOMO for games that don't need to exploit it. I prefer events with a bit more permanence for singleplayer games. Eg. Hotdogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades does an annual "Meatmas" event for the holiday season, which is an annual update that adds the community's most wanted guns to the game, and boxes them all under the tree in a unique xmas map so it's actually like opening xmas presents.

So, while I don't really want 4DON or an equivalent to come back, I do think it might be nice to have a consistent date to expect some kind of content update, like if Hinterland added one or two new food items every Xmas. That, or a more community driven affair, like a specific date to organise streams/challenge events/etc. But I don't really want to run around Great Bear collecting parts to repair santa's sleigh.

How were you be able to assume I would get offended? You say that I suggested it might?

The video is from the Office where Stanley rants about the themed christmas events (muslim christmas, diwali christmas etc.) He just wants a regular christmas event. Just like me. It seems that You can't move a muscle in this world without offending or thinking of offending anyone.

I think before this topic gets totally derailed that it might be wise to just stick to the ops original request rather than politics and religion....

There's plenty of room for ideas that are for all folks whatever their beliefs...

Jeez all I suggested was some Christmas theme addons, didn't think people would get so offended by a simple suggestion. Its only a video game after all, who says these kinds of things need to be so political?
