Francheetos Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Using the milling machine and/or gunsmith bench you craft a flintlock rifle or pistol which benefit from the handgun and rifle skills respectively. The idea is to give a use for some of the gameplay features that get left behind on higher difficulties as well as giving a use to items like scrap lead which are completely useless on interloper and above. For the rifle, it would be more of a big game hunter; high carry weight (can be reduced by SC holster) but very high damage. The pistol would be more of a backup, similar to the revolver, intended for self defense and can be fired both on the hip and during struggles granted you have a cartridge loaded. To make said ammunition you would need, lead balls (crafted at the gunsmith bench), cloth and a small amount of gunpowder. Just like the improvised tools, the improvised guns would be less reliable then their regular counterparts. Both guns have a chance to go *click* depending on how wet they are. They would also break much faster meaning you'll have to maintain them regularly. Regardless of what you think of my idea I think we can all agree that it would be great if the higher difficulties had access to the full skill list in some way, if you have any other ideas for this share them!
Pencil Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I am definitely in favor of improvised firearms, even on Interloper, since you have to craft all of your tools and weapons. The only issue would be balancing; it may be a powerful hunting tool, but the bow is also a really good hunting tool and a lot lighter. It would be useful against cougars, as it's very hard to hit the cougar with a bow, but in the base game it probably wouldn't be worth the time and weight. Nevertheless it would be cool to see improvised firearms.
