I have discovered that it is possible to start a campfire in the bed of the game's pickup trucks that do not have a frame rack over the truck bed (like the Breyerhauser trucks).  The snow in the bed of these trucks is a false snow surface so the campfire ends up on the bed, under the snow surface,  though still visible when active.  When the campfire is burned out, it "disappears" beneath the false snow surface but putting the cursor over it will bring it to light.  Placing the fire can be a finickt action.

The bed of the pickup truck is probably not completely wind-protected.  That might be affected by exactly where the campfire ends up in the truck bed and probably by wind direction.  It is possible that the prevailing wind can prevent lighting the campfire.  I haven't tried this in a blizzard, yet.

The cab of the truck seems to be within the warmth range of the campfire.  At least it was so in my Pilgrim game.

While sitting in the cab you cannot turn enough to be able to see the fire but you can turn enough to be able to possibly see the light effects of the fire on the back window of the cab.  Getting out of the cab is the only way to actually check fire duration or feed more fuel to the fire.

I did not try to cook any food but did put cans of snow on the cooking surfaces (have to feel around for them as they would generally not be visible) to make water.

Since the truck cab has a +5 C interior temperature differential over outside ambient temperature, a +3 C warmth bonus when sleeping or passing time as selected when in the "sleep" section, and no wind chill, being able to put a fire in the truck bed might be helpful.  YMMV.

The "white" Breyerhauser trucks seem to be narrower than the blue trucks.  No way to fit a campfire in the narrower bed in back.

Neat! I've made campfires besides vehicles before, as cover or to enjoy that added bit of shelter while waiting for things to cook, but wasn't aware this was possible in vanilla! To be honest though, from the title "Pickup Truck Heating" I thought at first you meant the unimplemented feature where vehicles could have their 'heated seats' toggled during an aurora, which I believe was a scrapped feature from the Blackrock patch.

Not every pickup truck can have a campfire in the bed of the truck.  Some trucks beds just are not big enough.  Also the truck bed is not particularly wind protected.  But if you want to try and take precautions (a truck in a somewhat wind protected location might work) it might be fruitful.

I just happen to try and see if a campfire would fit.  Surprised when it did.  Never actually tried to make more use of that "feature" other than the first time when I tried making a couple cans of water to see if it would work.
