That’s the post.

Here are some examples:

”Garbage Man — Place 50kg of non-ruined objects into containers and allow them to be washed into the Sea.”

”Ardent Recycler — Break down 2,500 pieces of cardboard into tinder piles throughout the course of a single sandbox.”

”Avowed Pacifist — Discard 10 firearms from a single sandbox by placing them into Beachcombing containers and allowing  the Sea to reclaim them.”

”Pescatarian — Eat a diet consisting of only fish and vegetables over 250 days during a single sandbox.”

”Breathing Ain’t Easy, But It Sure Is Nice — Stay alive for a cumulative of 69 minutes without using a respirator while traversing spaces afflicted by Suffocation.” **

** Admittedly, if you pull this off, you should get a Feat and have the Suffocation timer extended from 50 to 69 seconds. 😂

Like..take on ten packs of twolves and fight them off using only stones?

That’s one way to go, I suppose.

If you played World of Warcraft, this has more to do with exploring ALL of the aspects of the game as opposed to only fighting aspects. :)

WoW is FAMOUS for its absolutely ridiculous achievements. As an achievement & feat of strength (achievements … except FAR worse) hunter, it was something I both loved and hated about the game — LOVED because it required me to think outside the box, HATED because the constant additional content meant increasingly obscure things to do.

Typically, WoW achievements involved days or weeks of questing or grinding … and feats of strength were attained through either sheer luck or absolute sheer power of will and months of repeated trying across multiple characters. 😂

It’s in that spirit I’m approaching this. Something that’s far more difficult — and requires more planning — than a one off encounter with a bunch of Wolves. :)

LOL. Yes, yes it would. But it would give me something to do with all of the dang sticks I feel the need to pick up, and a place for all of the cattail heads and tinder plugs I would have laying around at the halfway point.

I like the idea of the mine, but wanted to stick to an achievement anyone could try to earn, with no need to own the DLC.

"Heavy Reader- These Things Weigh a Ton!" : stash 200 books of any kind (skill books and books for burning) in the PV Farmhouse without burning or removing a single book that is either found in the Farmhouse or is brought into the Farmhouse. Alternate name: "I Wonder If Ikea Delivers Bookcases Here?"

*gets a little 🥴 imagining all of the "huge piles of books dumped on the floor" Z fighting that will ensue*

Love this idea about bookcases. Sincerely looking forward to being able to stock public spaces with books. It’d be super nice if someday we get to see Port Mary, and Port Mary had a Library that could be restocked with all of the books found everywhere. 😂💜

Personally, I think each DLC should come with its own array of achievements, too. Especially because they don’t bestow anything of in-game value upon those who manage to secure them.

Achievements are just a super low-invasive way to allow game devs to offer some the player base some gentle encouragement to try new things. Completely optional. :$

"Artistic Block": Use 20 cans of spray paint completely, but only spray one single map marker shape. For example, if you start with a square, you must only spray paint squares from that point on, until you have emptied the full 20 cans. Removing any map markers resets the counter and you must start over. Alternate name: "Warhol's Got Nothing On Me!".

Moving away from the useless and into the absurd. 😂

To clarify further, I’m not advocating environmental damage.

Achievements are a way for devs to encourage different types of gameplay while also allowing for personal gameplay growth.

For example, if one were to discard 10 firearms within a single sandbox for the proposed “Ardent Pacifist” achievement, this would necessarily make the game more difficult for people who use firearms without *Hinterland* imposing that restriction upon them. It’d be rewarding people for *choosing* to play their own self-styled “Gunloper” experience, you know?

Ah, but I find absurd achievements to be silly and fun. For example- the "I Was Not Expecting You Human" achievement in Grim Dawn. It serves no gameplay purpose, gives no advantages to the player (it actually puts the player at a disadvantage in many ways), and takes so much planning to actually manage to complete (including killing the character off repeatedly in Softcore mode, to scrub off XP before going after the Warden)- pure absurdity, but quite silly and deeply satisfying to actually complete (while being quite frustrating- it often takes multiple tries to get it). Unlocking it made me LOL for days, truly, even though I had to scrap that character because there was no reason the think that character wouldn't get constantly one-shot killed in the next area of the game, no matter how much respeccing I did.

And HL gave us the spray paint to spray all over the map to mark locations. So... using an item in the game that the devs gave us to use, in a way the game allows us to use it, is bad? With the Cannery covered in graffiti to inspire the idea...

You asked for silly, so I am giving you silly... a purely nonsensical achievement suggestion that makes me smile. :)

True enough. Though I never use spray paint. Sometimes it’s to my detriment, though most of the time, it’s not.

Now that I’ve fully explored the Far Territory cave & mine systems — and with the impending massive mine I anticipate is coming with Episode 5 — I might start using them more in underground locations.

And you’re right! I did ask for silly!

Migration: Travel from 1 side of the map to the other with a wolf chasing you in less then 24 hours ingame.

Requires too much cooperation from the wolf - they do get bored eventually. However, I know people do this with a bear by doing it in The Hunted challenge.
