Goletitout Posted September 21 Posted September 21 I’ve noticed that if I harvest maple saplings/birch saplings with my crafted hatchet the condition for the hatchet doesn’t seem to alter ? If I harvest an animal chop wood etc it does. Has it always been this way or is this a bug ? 1
SpanishMoss Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Do you have a hacksaw in your inventory? It might be using that instead
UTC-10 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 It has always been that way. The act of harvesting saplings (birch and maple) with a hatchet or improvised hatchet was likely considered (by the devs) too trivial to warrant condition loss. Given that condition loss for a hatchet when it occured would be 2% per use (3% for improvised hatchets) that would be a pretty harsh condition loss if you have a stand of five birch saplings and would have a 10 or 15% tool condition loss if you harvested them. Chopping up a branch for only 3 sticks takes 2/3% off the hatchet/improvised hatchet condition so maybe we can be happy that the devs didn't extend condition loss even further than they did. 2 1
williamwill009 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 If it's a change from before, it might be a bug or an update.
Veskaida Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Far as I can remember chopping saplings has never affected Hatchet/Saw durability. The same is true for Prybars when digging up Burdock, or Fishing Tackle to fish (though if the 'line breaks' the item will be destroyed). It does cost durability to use tools to Repair, Craft, "Break Down" furniture/tree limbs, break ice, etc. It even costs Hammer durability to Forge or craft "acorn grounds", though TLD tracks decimal values so it make take several crafts for this to cross the 1% threshold.
