Compass & binoculars along with the ability to make jerky/pemmican to keep the calories up but the  weight down. Plus the ability to make hats/mitts from wolves. Maybe some raccoons too.

The LEARNED ABILITY — gated behind a Tale — to construct a semi-permanent wigwam/witu indigenous dwelling. Limit ONE PER SANDBOX. Materials to be gathered from ALL OVER GREAT BEAR. Extremely expensive and time intensive to make. They do cost upkeep in materials, but would around 9-12 months before total failure. Again, this would be gated behind a Tale-like mechanic,  during which the Survivor would learn about any First Nations presence on Great Bear, and the importance of natural materials to said indigenous society.

the compass is a definite NO for obvious reasons

Well, a compass that actually points North, sure, but IMO a compass would make sense for worldbuilding and could serve a secret real purpose because of the geomagnetic interaction. Eg. if it starts spinning like mad, an aurora will happen tonight.
