Note: This concept idea is rather complicated & ambitious. However, I think it would be interesting to see it present in a game like this.

So after you explore a region in the game, it feels unnecessary to come back. If you left some resources behind or need to pass though 1 region to get to another is understandable. But for players who play TLD for long term achievements (+100 days), the core gameplay can get rather stale and tedious when there's nothing left to discover in the map. What if after a certain period of days/weeks in-game, the regions start to open up some secret areas that you didn't see before. For instance, the strong winds from a blizzard could clear a path to a hidden cave you missed out on. Or perhaps you were missing a specific tool needed to open up a locked door. Or perhaps a tree fell down across a canyon that allows you to cross it. You may even find a dead body somewhere you already explored, hinting that there's still survivors in great bear, but you were too late to find them.

To be fair, there are a couple of these backtracking areas to discover. When the aurora is active, you can use keypads to unlock areas where the ammunition workbench is located. You can find hidden caches in the ground with your receiver. You can put ropes on cliffs to climb or descend down them. I just think there should be more actions like this in the game to encourage backtracking and exploration.

That's my thoughts, what do you think of this concept idea?

I think it's a great idea, but it may be difficult to realize.

I did say that the concept was rather complicated, especially since the game has been out and updated for quite some time. I don't expect it to become a reality. But maybe some other developers making a hardcore survival game can use a concept like this in their game.

I like this idea a lot. As you suggest, it gives the player the possibility to "recycle" an already explored area. As you further suggest, it can be done with a realistic (a sometimes overstated, sometimes underestimated word) touch, like a fallen tree bridge. All in all it would be a pleasant gift for a seasoned explorer. I find it difficult to overview gameplay implications but I'm certain someone else can.

I think they tried to implement something like this with the Crampons, certain areas of Ash Canyon were only accessible after obtaining them.

I do think this would be a good way to keep a 500 day run fresh though.
