I know this isn't technically the proper location for Support inquiries, but I've submitted two bug reports on this (the first one about a week after the Tale was released, the second one back in May) via the Hinterland Support page and gotten no movement on it.  I'm hoping someone here can offer some insight, or maybe a moderator or Hinterland employee can look up the existing bug reports and see what their status is.

I am stuck in the Buried Echoes tale and unable to progress. I'm in the Zone of Contamination and have found the first cache with the journal page that tells me about the helicopter crash but when I approach that helicopter crash site during an aurora, the handheld radio does not detect the cache under the tail. I know that's where the cache is because I had to look it up, but since the radio doesn't detect it I can't dig it up and progress the story.  The radio itself is lit up brightly but the indicator makes no sound and no visible "ping", nor does the needle move at all.

I think this may be because I explored the map before I continued with the Tale, and found the helicopter crash site long before I found the first cache with the note telling me about it. I would love to be able to correct the issue, though, so I can finish the Tale.

I have tried the following in an attempt to fix the issue:

-- Waiting several in game hours (without passing time or sleeping) and then pulling out the handheld again  (no change)

-- Switching the handheld mode back and forth multiple times  (no change)

-- Passing time for an hour, then two hours  (no change)

-- Sleeping for an hour, then two hours (no change)

-- Waiting for another aurora cycle without leaving ZOC  (no change)

-- Leaving ZOC, traveling to Transfer Pass, waiting for an aurora, and then returning to ZOC during the same aurora (no change)

-- Leaving ZOC, traveling to Forsaken Airfield, waiting for an aurora, and then returning to ZOC during the same aurora (no change)

-- Leaving ZOC, traveling to Broken Railroad, waiting for an aurora, and then returning to ZOC during the same aurora (no change)

At this point I would even be glad to progress the Tale with console commands or something.  I would really like to finish the Tale and move on so I can explore Sundered Pass.  Anyone got any ideas?  Or info on how to check the status on existing bug reports?

cheers,

Phil

Is this a separate save than the one you did Signal Void in?  If so did you remember to repair the airfield transmitter before attempting Buried Echoes?  Did you collect the first cache at Boss's Settlement?

There have been issues with the transponder not working .I'm sure it's in the list of fixes,a long list ,so it might take a while im afraid.but please be patient.

They'll deliver,they always do😊

I would assume, since it was not mentioned by the OP, that the Buried Echos list of tasks does say find the "helicopter" crash site?  Should not be an issue as I would suppose that the contents of the first cache should be sufficient and that there was no secondary/separate item to be picked up at the cache (been awhile since I did Buried Echos).

@UTC-10, you're probably right.  It's just that I remember someone in one of the communities I follow said that both could be detected  regardless of progress.  Now Hinterland likely fixed that problem, I'm just thinking maybe OP thinks they're still like that and is trying to skip ahead one step somehow.

Thanks for the replies. Been at a business meeting all week and hadn't had the chance to check this thread till now.

@rush247, it is the same save I did Signal Void in.  The transmitter was working for me in ZOC and did lead me to the first cache at Boss's Settlement.  That note found at that cache then directed me to look for the helicopter crash in the hills.  I've found the helicopter itself, but the radio doesn't pick up the cache that I know is there under its tail (I had to look it up since the radio isn't finding anything).

@UTC-10 , the main screen under the "Tales" flag in the game UI shows:

"BURIED ECHOES:  Search the Langston mine for remnants of Rudiger and his project".

The Objective on the right shows "Use the handheld shortwave to locate any signs of life."

I distinctly recall opening the cache in Boss's Settlement and reading the "A Page from a Journal" which directed me to the helicopter crash in the hills, but I can't find the "A Page From a Journal" item iself in my Notes or in my Mementos. I wonder if I opened the cache, read the page, then left the Page there? Maybe the next cache can't be found unless you have the "A Page From a Journal" in the inventory?  Something to check, I suppose.

@Leeanda, I've tried really hard to be patient. I know Hinterland's a small studio. But I haven't been able to make any progress on the Tale since about a week after it was released, and now here we are with the next Tale already out.  I'm just a bit frustrated.  😁

Thanks to all for the replies! I will head back to ZOC and see if for some reason I left the "A Page from a Journal" in the cache at Boss's Settlement.

I went into my game and took a screen shot of the journal log page and a shot of the page as you would see in on the notes page.

Close your eyes when you look at the journal log page if you don't want to see the next objectives.  🙈

Not knowing where things went wrong can be very frustrating. Hope this helps.

Good luck.

I trekked my happy ass all the way from Coastal Highway to ZOC and rolled into Boss's Settlement to find, waiting for me in the cache, the read-once-but-never-actually-picked-up "A Page From a Journal".  The second I moved it to my inventory, the new Objective "Use the handheld shortwave to track down the crashed helicopter mentioned in the journal entry" activated itself and the previous one, "Use the handheld shortwave to locate any signs of life" marked itself as completed.

I will bet a large non-zero amount of money that the next aurora that comes around will give me an active shortwave that actually PICKS UP the cache now.

For crying out loud. Months and months of time wasted because I hadn't picked up the actual page itself.  What a dumbass I am.

Hinterland, if I may make a small suggestion, maybe reading the note once should be sufficient to update the Objective, instead of having to pick up the Page. You can't idiot-proof things (because you will always encounter special idiots like me) but you can try.  😁
