JayEnfield Posted September 1 Posted September 1 It's cold. You have fuel. You hunker down next to a felled deer, and build your fire to unthaw the thing, put your pot on to get water going. You add enough fuel into the fire to raise the temperature to a comfortable level and then you hear it: a slight breeze. Nothing you can do, the fire duration drops to 9 minutes, and all of the fuel you had put into it is gone. This makes for a very immersion-breaking situation where I'm afraid to put logs on the fire when fuel is scarce, in case the wind blows all of my fir logs into the ether. I am NOT suggesting that the wind shouldn't mess with fires... Only that I'd really really REALLY like for a blown-out fire to still contain the fuel which could be re-lit or reclaimed so I can move it into a different location and light it up again. 5 4
bascolais Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I think it would be useful to be able to mount a little snow wall to protect from the wind. the place will be windly safe, but it takes times so you'll lose some fuel, but not all, and can replenish it. 2 1
dahemac Posted September 7 Posted September 7 I have always thought that a no-brainer for TLD would be being able to use the snow. For instance to make a snowman as the simplest example. But more usefully, to be able to make an actual useful snow shelter in a realistic way. Or for that matter an igloo. Not the sticks and canvas—tent?— that the game has now. Rolling four big snowballs to make a small windbreak, that would be very doable in a realistic setting. 1 1
