ssuatt Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Title. It would be nice to have the trader able to give info about a item's location that you once had but lost & forgot where it was dropped, in exchange for a price of course.
ThePancakeLady Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Interesting idea, but how would it work? Does it only work for items you only had one of? If I have 2 bedrolls, and leave one behind somewhere, but have the other one in my base and know where it's at, how does the game know which bedroll is the lost one? Would it be a list of items that you only have/had one of, but don't have in your inventory at the time? How would the game know whether an item was lost and not intentionally left behind? I like the idea, but how do you see it working?

I intended to leave that open to debate, but if you ask me, i think the process would be: Interact with trader -> Ask for lost items -> Bring up a Category of Items that haven't been Interacted for X Number of days -> Select item -> Confirm & Payment. The trader would give you a dead drop location of a box(?) which appears somewhere in the world after Y number of days, after found, it would ping the location of the item on your map. I understand this has some flaws, like how frustrating 2 trips would be if the dead drop appears across the world, seeing hundreds of items on the list, etc. But it should give a basic idea of how it would work.
UTC-10 Posted August 20 Posted August 20 I think it better for the Trader to have a limited assortment of gear and materials for sale (however that gets worked out). Simpler to implement with less probability of buggy behavior. Now if the devs go through all the trouble to implement something for finding "lost" items via the Trader, like what was suggested, I won't object but I don't think they will.
bascolais Posted August 20 Posted August 20 hi, I see him/her more as an isolated person; blocking a pass to a zone you can't access. willing to see no one, whatever the reasons, and having needs. you bring what is needed and the trader store give you some choices of items, maybe changing each time you go back here, and maybe once in a while. so not having links with what you have done, only trading for needs of both. it doesn't means that he/her can't have the gear or item you lost, if it exists in the trader storage. 1
Lexilogo Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Eeeh, I'm not sure I see the need for this. Excluding rare events like bear attacks, the only time you'll drop items is if you do so yourself. (there's also Cheat Death, but it gives you a map marker for recovering your inventory) In that case, you can always write a Note for yourself in the ingame note tools, or use Spray Paint for a map marker assuming the weather is clear. Whenever I do a drop for carry weight purposes and etc, I usually put the stuff on main roads too so I can find it again easily. Losing track of a placed item is a pretty niche situation that you can prepare to avoid happening to you. I'm sure it's a gut punch to lose track of your beloved Rifle or etc, but the reality is that you already have lots of tools to avoid ending up in that situation, and the need to recover from it is too narrow compared to the difficulty of implementing the feature IMO. Especially when it's possible buying a new instance of your lost item from the Trader could be the alternative.
