dahemac Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I have 1,293.7 hours in TLD. So, it would be dishonest, as I launch it again, to say I don’t love the game. I have launched it many times now. Sometimes, when an update is released, a dozen times in a row, trying to troubleshoot. Please, for the love of all the old gods under the mountains of Great Bear, add an option to skip the title cards and launch directly to the main menu. Please. As things stand, every time I tell my machine to launch TLD, I then have to tell it again… and again… and again… 2
ManicManiac Posted August 13 Posted August 13 [Esc] already lets us skip the title cards you mentioned as well as the rest of the opening cinematic and takes you right to the main menu. If you are really referring to the Warning and Disclaimer... well, those (I think it's safe to say) are there for a reason. They already greatly reduced the time before the skip on the photosensitivity warning to just a second or two, and the Disclaimer doubles as a bit of a loading screen. ...I suppose if you are a consoler... I imagine there is an approximate function on your controller. Start maybe? Or perhaps the whatever button is used to "cancel action?" I'm not sure, perhaps another console player could speak to that. I have not had a console since the original PlayStation. 4
Leeanda Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Xbox myself and as far as I know most can be skipped ,except the main axe logo right at the start.. I cannot for the life of me remember which button it is to skip,I've just done it automatically for so long lol.. maybe the B button.. 1
Pyroxene Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Just spam the X button on PS4, works for me. Shaves a few seconds off. 1 1
nautofon Posted August 13 Posted August 13 You've played for 1293 hours? Assuming an average game session duration of two hours, this means you've seen the disclaimers and title cards about 647 times. I think by now you've more than earned an option to hide them entirely. The main thing I don't get is why I have to press Esc multiple times. Once should really be enough to let the game know that I'd like to see the menu right away, please. 4
Leeanda Posted August 13 Posted August 13 At least they are skippable if you want, there's a lot of games out there that take a lot longer to load and don't have that ability.. Personally I don't mind either way, sometimes I'll skip them ,others I won't..and I've played for over 6200 hours.. 2

nautofon Posted August 13 Posted August 13 ManicManiac, I think you forgot the disclaimers / warnings. You do need to press Esc a couple of times before you even see the Hinterland logo. 2
dahemac Posted August 14 Author Posted August 14 For the “warnings are there for a reason” people. Fine. Make it so that the option to disable the title cards is AFTER the title cards. So you cannot disable them, without first having seen them. There. Due diligence served. 5
rush247 Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Just so you know there is a mod that will disable them completely, it's called "Skip Intros." https://xpazeman.com/tld-mod-list/ Obviously only available for PC Steam. 2

So someone went to the trouble of writing a mod to fix this. Hmm. That kinda implies that there is a demand for it.

I mean, I didn't forget about it... it's just that the thread was, "Skip title cards," so that's what I was focusing my reply about. The warning & disclaimer don't require [Esc] per se, just that you "Press Any Key." I also discuss those in my original statement: On 8/13/2024 at 1:04 AM, ManicManiac said: If you are really referring to the Warning and Disclaimer... well, those (I think it's safe to say) are there for a reason. From my perspective, I guess I just don't really see anything there for Hinterland to "fix." It's a perfectly fine wish list item, don't get me wrong... I was just giving my thoughts on the idea. I am just going to say, as a modder (not for this game, but many others over the last 3-4 decades)... many of the mods I crafted and published were made only because *I wanted new things/ things changed/ things optimized for my PC*, not because anyone asked me to create it, or because of some overwhelming "demand" from other players. I wanted it, so I made it and put it out there for free so anyone else wanted the same thing(s) could have it. And yes, it was always a bit shocking and satisfying at the same time, when some of them took off and became popular. There was no "demand" for my mods until after I had created them and published them (I did not create "by request" mods). Not all mods are made "on demand". I don't recall seeing a huge public outcry for the Manicure mod for this game- yet it was made by someone who wanted to make it for their own reasons, and then published so others could use it if they wanted to. Disclaimers and Warnings exist for a reason, and I am sure HL ran the idea of including them or making them skippable past their legal advisors before doing anything. Just because one person thinks it wouldn't create any liability issues for HL to allow it to be done away with altogether- the court system may not agree. People sue other people and businesses for all sorts of reasons, and even if the person or business being sued wins- it still costs them time and money to defend themselves against the suit(s). Just because you say you wouldn't sue, there are always other people who would. That said- mods cannot be used by people who play on a console version of this game, nd only exist for a few video games (or require so much hacking/coding knowledge and skill that most players will never be able to get them working). So, not all players have that option. 3

Yeah, I have a feeling that is why modding tools for the game have not been released yet- because HL has always tried to make sure all platforms have the same version of the game- and adding modding tools to console versions is not going to be anything close to "easy". Possibly impossible for Switch, with as difficult Nintendo can be about even releasing regular updates (*says the Switch owner who despises Nintendo for it...*). I have TL2 on Switch (and TLD)- and it's nice that I can take my game with me easily if I am on a long trip (and not the driver)- not so nice to have to deal with a game like TL2 crashing or corrupting saves frequently, and none of my favorite TL2 mods available. I bought the Switch before the Steam Deck was a thing... I often wish I had been able to time travel to see the Deck coming, and gone back and skipped buying the Switch. 2
