My son created a run for me, I'm not sure what the fear settings are ,and neither is he lol..

But I've been chased by wolves and frightened them away with just aiming stones. However when a wolf came for me on the lake I aimed the flare gun at it ,which made it charge so  I fired it... It didn't run off until after the attack but I'm sure I've seen @Zaknafein aiming one and scaring it away.. doesn't this happen any more

From my experience the scaring away works only, if You have a torch or fire near You. The flare gun fired is a secure "out of jail card" anyway.

It was the only thing I had that I could use,it was too windy for fires or torches...

I'm positive I've seen Zak aiming an empty one at wolves though, but I can't remember if he had a torch too.. ..

Either way I fired a shot right at it but it ran straight through it.

The aim weapon thing only works with a source of fire nearby, the more concerning part is the flare gun not working.
It should scare off the wolf when shot even when it's already charging, unless it's an aurora wolf (and you don't land a hit).

That being said I had a wonky interaction with a wolf and the flare gun since the last update also- mine also phased right through it and acted oddly before that.
Shooting a flare onto the ground should also work as fire for scaring off wolves, now I'm thinking of doing that preemptively instead.

It wasn't an aurora,it was late morning so it couldn't have been that ...  I expected the wolf to keep running past me ,same as the bear/moose does..

I know at least that it still kills a bear in one hit ,I did it yesterday morning, but I know it doesn't kill the moose any more...  I wonder if it's been changed or it is a bug..

AFAIK, once a wolf starts charging, you have to hit it to scare it off. A charging wolf is not scared by a missed shot.

It's important to scare the wolf before it starts charging.

I'm not sure how it could've missed,it was too close not to hit it..but it seemed to just go straight through it.

Something similar was reported on Steam, though with a bear. The first response seems to have solved the problem:

Not sure if it's a bug or like the first poster said- you have to aim a bit higher now? I haven't tested it yet myself yet.

Thank you..  I'll try that  ..   I noticed a year or so ago that the level has to be higher than it looks ,at least for bears, because i tended to shoot too low..but I also tend to shoot them in the rear, it's a bigger target lol...

I have plenty of shells so I can test it on the wolves..

Yeah, I am not sure if it's a bug or not. But it might be? Found another thread about hits seemingly not scoring, but with regular bullets, deer and wolves this time:

I haven't had the problem (yet), but I use bow & arrow almost exclusively and almost always go for head shots or neck shots. So now I wonder if this is a hitbox bug? I'd file a bug report just in case it is, and they aren't aware that hitboxes might have shifted with the last hotfix, or the raytracing they use for projectile pathing is off?

I'll be playing first thing in the morning so I'll have a few goes with the rifle and revolver..  thank you..

Does sound like there's an issue somewhere.
