We already have the insulated flasks, so I'm just idly wondering how big of a game changer a water canteen would be.  Being limited to a specific water carrying capacity, rather than being able to produce an endless supply of plastic bottles as needed.

I appreciate the above is for game reasons.  Would something like this just be an annoyance, or would it add an interesting new wrinkle to survival?

A canteen is a awesome idea, it could make water less heavy for longer travels, like the toolbelt, rifle holster etc. It would come in handy, but I think a better fit would be a waterskin, crafted with deer pelts

I think the idea of a fluid management system, rather than containers manifesting as needed (with Jerry Cans being the only  exception), was mentioned as under consideration by the devs years ago, but I would assume with the TFTFT roadmap and the end of Wintermute it has been dismissed.

It would be a pretty big gamechanger as right now, the ability to infinitely stockpile water (and via Cooking Level 5, cooked food) makes the nonrenewable status of Matches a lot less threatening than it might be otherwise. I do think without fluid storage items being very common (eg. plastic bottles) it would get pretty annoying.

BTW, there is a mod called Better Water Management (xpazeman's site has TLD mods like it and modding instructions) that does essentially implement a fluid management system of needing to get the bottles for water before storing it, so if you are interested in how such a thing would affect the game, you can test it.

Yeah, I'm kind of unsure of the idea myself.  At the moment it's fairly easy to stockpile potable water.  Being limited to the amount you can capture and carry at one time in a canteen or waterskin might be more realistic, but would likely just increase the frequency you need to camp and start a fire.  It would certainly increase the potential for running out of water.

It might be one of those suggestions that sounds good in theory, but not so good in practice on it's own.  But yeah, maybe as part of a more intensive overhaul.

Speaking of which - non-potable water sources.  How about being able to collect non-potable water from an ice fishing hole?  Might make water purification tablets a bit more useful?

I have a few ideas on how I would like water management to be and they are in many ways similar to what better water management mod  does.

The player should find a water canister or craft a waterskin.

Merged time of melting snow and boiling water, the player cannot take water in parts.  When a player takes boiled water and there is more than what can fit in a water canister, the excess water is poured out.

Water in toilets is always non-potable; the player can drink it directly from the toilet or take it into an empty water canister.

One tablet purifies all the water in a water canister.

Mugs with tea/coffee can only be found in buildings; the player cannot take them in backpack, can only  either drink or place around. The player drinks tea/coffee directly from utensil in which they are prepared. In skillet and cooking pot tea/coffee is prepared in the same amount as water.

Insulated flask works as a water canister. The player pours tea/coffee into it until it is full, and the excess is poured out.

Just as someone already suggested, the player can take water from the fishing hole and boil sea water to get salt.

New water canisters in far territory are good to store water in them. I wish they could also be added to other regions
