ElSuperGecko Posted July 29 Posted July 29 ...does anyone actually do this? I mean, I know peach pie is a real thing, but I've never heard of boiling canned peaches before! 1
ThePancakeLady Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Yes! Hot canned fruit (peaches, cherries, pears, apricots) in Autumn or Winter. Usually put over Pancakes or oatmeal, sometimes over pork steaks (canned pineapple in particular). Grew up with this as a "cheap" dessert, the sauce the fruit was packed in sometimes thickened with sugar and some spices added, with walnuts or pecans and whipped cream added when Mom & Dad could afford to splurge. Fried pineapple rings (fresh or canned) with pork or venison, and a variety of fruits mixed with cranberries, cooked and served as a warm fruit chutney with turkey or goose or pheasant (depending on what we had hunted) that day. We don't have the "cupboard spices" (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla or almond extract) in the game that were always in our spice drawer, but I get the same warm memories when cooking peaches or making Camber Flight Porridge in the game. 4
ElSuperGecko Posted July 29 Author Posted July 29 Right, now I'm hungry! 🤣 I love canned fruit, but I'd never considered heating it up before seeing this game! 2
