I_eat_only_wolf_meat Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I noticed there is no "Misery" set of pre-selected options in the custom game dialogue. Is there any way to run a custom game with the weather, loot, and wildlife settings of "Misery", while removing some or all of the Misery mode afflictions? Custom code anyone? I'm at a point where I can't get past twenty days or so in Misery, but interloper isn't challenging enough in the late game. 1
Leeanda Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I was kind of wondering something similar.. I want to try it but the bears put me ok trying.. 1
I_eat_only_wolf_meat Posted July 28 Author Posted July 28 I suspect the answer to my question is "No.", but maybe it's useful to discuss it. Like, maybe the devs can craft a custom code that will be accepted by the interface, but can't be created within the very same interface (if that makes any sense). It's the brutal, brutal cold in Misery, in combination with the afflictions, that makes it so difficult. The bears can sit down and wait their turn 😄
Leeanda Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Sorry,I wasn't trying to derail the thread... I was kind of agreeing with you that maybe there could be some custom settings for it... 1

They'll have to squabble over my already dead corpse when I freeze or starve to death. 1
Leeanda Posted July 28 Posted July 28 (edited) I know... Lol. I just realised after I wrote it that it might be taken that way..... Edited July 28 by Leeanda 1
Kain Posted November 17 Posted November 17 (edited) Bump this thread. I just got "broken body" for the first time. I like the added challenge of the Misery modifiers and the pacing at which the game curses you with them, but not being able to recover HP is a bit of a bummer. Would be super rad to have the Misery modifiers available in custom settings to pick and choose as we like. Hopefully this isn't too difficult to program, because it would add a lot of replayability. Also having 20 day intestinal parasites duration in custom mode would bode well with the other challenge modifiers from Misery. Thanks again for all of your work/support/love throughout the years. Cheers. Edited November 17 by Kain

I'm at a point where I can't get past twenty days or so in Misery, but interloper isn't challenging enough in the late game. Raph has mentioned before the possibility of more settings/features being added to the Custom Sandbox. There have been other threads on these forums discussing requested features, like Misery Mode Afflictions, Beachcombing loot density, etc. Hopefully this gets added sometime before TLD reaches EOD, but if not I wouldn't be surprised if the modding community adds options to tweak some of these settings. If you're looking for specific custom game modes similar to Interloper but not as brutal as Misery, I'd recommend: Gunloper (Interloper settings, but with Firearms enabled) Dead Man Challenge/No One Gets Out Alive (basically Interloper but with all loot/wildlife set to minimum and Condition healing disabled (unlike Misery, you 'can' actually heal in NOGOA by using estims and Well Fed). IMO it's harder than Misery early (pre Day 46), and easier than Misery post. You 'can' theoretically survive endlessly in NOGOA, but honestly I find it really unfun and annoying (e.g. Weather changes almost constantly, and wind constantly changing direction is really obnoxious for campfires). You can also play the "As The Dead Sleep" challenge and try to 'live' in that gameworld. It's similar to NOGOA (easier), but starting in Bleak Inlet can be fun. Endless Night (makes Maglens useless, and Intestinal Parasites incurable. It's fun for a little bit, but rather buggy. Wouldn't recommend). Self-imposed challenges: like spawning/only living in TFT, 'Outerloper' (Interloper, but you are prohibited from entering indoors structures/houses/etc). Modding: some mods like "Endless Weather" can add a lot of challenge to Interloper. (e.g. endless Blizzard, or Fog). From my understanding Misery isn't intended to be a 'long-term survival' mode. You 'can' theoretically live forever in Misery, but given how annoying it is to try and micro-manage your meters in NOGOA, personally my interest in Misery tapers off sharply past day 46. The 'point' of Misery is to die, or that it's extremely difficult to survive past a certain date, VS Interloper (or Interloper+challenges/mods/custom settings, etc) where it is possible to survive theoretically indefinitely. My hope is that Misery gets additional support over the coming patches, since IMO currently it has pretty strong incentives to 'save scum' and 'reroll' for particular loot tables. It's not a bad game mode, but imo it fits TLD's "Challenges" systems more closely than it's 'survival sandboxes' (even Custom). Edited November 19 by Veskaida 1
