Lexilogo Posted July 27 Posted July 27 The fishing rework has been pretty cool, but Lures in particular really need some numbers changes. TLD content creator Bashrobe made the below chart calculating the average yield of lures in a video (his channel in general is a good watch for obscure TLD mechanical explanations), and it's not looking good for lures. TL:DR: Lures are only useful if you want to see the rare fish, but actively harmful for getting resources out of fishing. They improve odds of rare fish at the cost of increasing minimum fishing time, but that tradeoff isn't worth it at all. So, let's remove the fishing time penalty from fishing lures. It doesn't really make sense why lures have that penalty in the first place. The ability to catch rare fish more often isn't a great bonus anyway, saltwater rare fish are worse catches than Salmon and while the freshwater Burbot is a great catch, you also increase your odds of getting the rather bad Goldeyes. Not to mention that traditional fishing isn't great in comparison to tip up fishing, so even if this makes traditional fishing stronger, it shouldn't disrupt the current balance of the game at all. 5 1
Stranzua Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I never bothered using lures once I heard that you lose them when the lines snap. Has anyone made lures only to lose them quickly?
UTC-10 Posted July 28 Posted July 28 At ice fishing level 5, I do not lose Fishing Tackle* often and, so far, have been lucky enough to not have lose any lures (I did craft a few) due to Fishing Tackle breakage, but the trade off of using a lure given its material requirements and seemingly reduced fish catch rate even if it does allow for rare fish being caught is mostly not worth it for me. The rare fish does not seem to be worth the effort given that the fish do not really seem to have any particular things that makes them more attractive or better to catch than the regular range of fish. They're just fish with the usual calories density issues, have lamp oil that can be harvested, and lack vitamin C content (last I recall) which for anyone who needs vitamin C makes them a detrimental fish to catch. Now if the rare fish had substantially higher vitamin C content than "ordinary" fish that might be sufficient to make them more worth risking lures for. But that's just a thought. It would help the trade off balance. Being able to make a quick and dirty fish (or meat) stew using a skillet OR pot is something that expands the utility of a base form of Frontier Cooking. Yes I felt compelled to add this. * Fishing Tackle is fishing tackle that I would no longer use as substitute for a sewing kit as it would likely break the next time I sewed with it. Typically <11% condition. Calling them Fishing Tackle rather than fishing tackle is a quirk I fell into. 2
exeexe Posted August 4 Posted August 4 (edited) 1. Have fish contain ml of oil pr kg of fish instead of per fish. (also vit C) 2. Have rare fish a bonus content of oil and vitamin C. 3. Maybe eating over 2000 kilo joule of fish gives some sort of bonus where you burn kilo joules slower, like 25% slower for 20 hours. Edited August 4 by exeexe 2
