K3V038 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 There are still a bunch of plants we should be able to find and eat or make into meals. Pine needles - we can brew them into a warm tea Tree sap (birch) - we can take sap from a tree and boil it to use as drink ( I do it with my dad once in a while) Wild onions and garlic - use them as food after cleaning, and we can use pretty much every part of the plant. There are still many diffrent edible things we can find laying arround, like berries, but i think that too much is too much. So id like to change some already existing things it would be great if we could eat prepared mushrooms and prepared rose hips just like with the burdock, instead of having to brew them into teas. We also should be able to use diffrent things to crush nuts, if it came to life or death i would use my damn hands to do so. And more cooking recipes would be much aprociated, I really love the frontier cooking system, its my favourite addition since years of playing tld. Here I have some ideas of what we can make, even using the things i mentioned above. Vegetable broth (less calories then the meat one) Onions and garlic - we can use those to perhaps boost the effects of the existing meals added in the new cooking system Ptarmigan eggs - found in ptarmigan nests, the more eggs you take, the less ptarmigans you have there as time passes, use them for things like omletes and new recipes Vegetables, preserved or fresh Ways of preserving food We should be able to find jars arround the kitchens of homes in great bear island, preserving food would be a must to live long term and prepare for times where we have to stay at our home. Getting vegetables into a jar and letting them pickle to use later on would be nice I Could go a lot deeper into this, but there are posts in the forums with great ideas for new things to cook. I however would like to see some: Slavic meals As a slav, I can see how we could make things in the long dark, that we normaly eat. We make good meals with the bare minimum often times. Here are some ideas Pierogi - a warm hearty meal known well to every slav culture. Many small pies with meat filling Borsch/barszcz (the name varies in diffrent countries) - many varieties to choose from, but I think the one that would fit the most is made with vegatables and meat Bigos - a hunter's stew in Poland, basicsly Wild meat and aromatic vegetables Pickle soup - a good use for the vegatables we keep in jars 2

Many small pies with meat filling Aren't these (kind of) basically already in the game? Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the recipes for the meat pies make three apiece? Seems like those would count as large pierogi... 1

Many small pies with meat filling To be serious, I would love new food, but TLD's identity as a survival game where resources are mostly nonrenewable will always make adding more foodtypes, foraging & cooking mechanics a bit of an awkward fit. Eg. I'd personally like the ability to cook freeform Broths with a variety of ingredients, but TLD wants it to require Salt as a finite resource and Ptarmigan meat to make their meat valuable, and in some respects, the game is better for having that focus. Re. Food preservation, I've always felt that Cooking Level 5's food poisoning immunity shouldn't work the way it does, and that TLD should have food preservation mechanics instead, but at this point in development it seems very clear it is not in the cards for the game. I am fairly sure a mod exists to eat Prepared shrooms, rose hips, etc. I would say there's some logic in disallowing it so you can't get Calories too quickly from your environment, but then I remembered Cat Tail Stalks exist, so I don't see why not. I also think pine needle tea is in a mod, too? Allowing us to crush acorns without the Heavy Hammer would be realistic, but it's clear it was done to give the hammer more purpose. Personally I think it's fine, especially given that you can eat cooked acorns without the need to ground them, so it's never a matter of life or death, it's about if you want the flour substitute or acorn coffee. 1
