Breaking down chairs with your bare hands isn't very realistic... You'd probably just end up scraping your arms?

Probably,unless the chairs are rotten ,even then it'd be tough but you have to make compromises in games..    

If I was freezing and I found no clothes but curtains were plentiful,I'd wrap myself up in them instead..   you could even just stick pillows under your jackets..

I've seen a lot of movies where people get chairs broken over their heads, so I always imagine Will breaking them over his own head . If anything I'd want more consistency; some chairs need a hatchet to break down while some don't; we can harvest a usable bedroll with bare hands but for an old bedroll we need a knife; we can tear a cooking pot into scrap metal with our bare hands yet we need a hacksaw to do the same to a toaster, etc. etc.
