SuperStriker16 Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I had this idea for a new challenge run that seems quite fun. A challenge where I cannot consume processed food products, (I will allow cooking ingredients such as oil, oats, flower, etc so I can cook pies and other non processed foods), I also need to craft every article of clothing that can be crafted (ie, outer hat, outer cloak/jacket, gloves, outer pants, and boots.) I can get my food by any fresh food means, some examples are: cattails, meat and fish obviously, calories from tea (no coffee or herbal tea) and vegetables like the potatoes and carrots as well as anything I can cook with these ingredients. one of the hardest things I can see about this challenge is the lack of premade medicine, so no painkillers, antibiotics, emergency stims, energy drinks etc, with bandages being the only premade medical supplies I can use as well as medicinal teas and old man’s beard to treat everything else. My main means of getting food will be hunting, fishing, trapping, and especially in the early game, gathering cattails. I will still be able to go inside any structure and get premade tools and guns as well as to craft and store things, so it’s not like any of these “outerloper” challenges I’ve seen, though it is somewhat inspired on that. I decided to make this another custom run as it seems that hinterland has fixed all of the issues, and I’m going for loot from voyager, animals from stalker and a few other changes. As for my misery run, I’ll finish it when I get more time I’m still on my rv road trip, so most of the day is spent traveling, when I get back home in probably 3 or 4 days I’ll have much more time to play, but right now, I don’t have nearly enough time to upkeep both runs. The code for this run is: “8mla - Zppq - KBmf - ZDeG - 9/YB” in case you want to see my exact settings or play this for yourself. Ill start in Forlorn Muskeg to work with this challenge. 3
SuperStriker16 Posted July 6 Author Posted July 6 I decided to allow myself 3 feats as that is how many I would get in a stalker run, I went for: Settled Mind, Efficient Machine, and Cold Fusion. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 6 Author Posted July 6 What a wonderful, freezing start! Time to gather cattails! 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 I have a little time at least, and in that time, I got to mystery lake and I’m now going to investigate the region, starting with the camp office. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 I forgot to mention this but while I was going around, I made the cloth hand wraps and hat to avoid frostbite, they are my first crafted clothes that I can use. I also found this hockey jersey, which makes a pretty good inner layer. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 Now that I have some time and searched everything in mystery lake, time to head to my new base location, I had a few things that I found that are worthwhile to bring up: I found: a hatchet, knife, prybar, and several birch and maple saplings, a revolver and 3 dozen rounds for it. I killed a ptarmigan and 2 rabbits, and shot several wolves. The reasons that the search took so long are that I searched very thoroughly, and have not had much time to play. I will attempt to continue with more regular updates on this story. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 I shot a bear on the way through forlorn muskeg, it was in extremely low visibility conditions, but I think i hit it on the head, I’m going to go back and find the bear carcass after I drop off my stuff and establish my new base. b5df2c5e-d4d0-42b8-918b-18adfa76ea50.mp4 2
ManicManiac Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Well done I look forward to following along on your adventures. It's great to see more folks chronicling runs. 1 1
SuperStriker16 Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 So a bit happened between the shed and now, I found a bear on the way to the lodge, and after scaring it off, hitting it with one shot (it wasn’t recorded) I then decided to follow it and harass it from range, from the shots fired at the bear, I hit 5 out of 6 of them, badly wounding the bear. d4221fc7-e981-42ee-ac2a-df43798f4044.mp4 Then a little later: 8fcd46dc-c490-4cdb-98e2-5b01dba1d6c0.mp4 And a few minutes after those shots, the bear died. I immediately quartered it for it’s precious hide. I made it to the lodge and sorted my gear, dumping lots of it off, and found a standard rifle in the metal tub in the basement, that would have been handy when dealing with the bear. I then placed it over the fire place where it belongs, I don’t intend to use it, as instead I will make a trip to fetch barb’s rifle for the superior iron sights. After that I went and skinned the 2 wolves I shot while going to the lodge, I also discovered a path that runs all the way to the maintenance shed. I gathered a ton of foragable items for medicine and burdock for food, I also shot a ptarmigan and stoned a rabbit. So things are going quite well. 3

SuperStriker16 Posted July 10 Author Posted July 10 This is everything I did yesterday, I made crampons and improvised insulation to help me get to barb’s rifle in coastal highway. I fell through some thin ice on my way through forlorn muskeg, so I had to rest for two days in mystery lake to get past the hypothermia. I eventually made it through to coastal highway and now I’m going to stick around to find everything I can while I’m here, and speaking of which, I found Barb’s rifle in the Quonset garage. Im going to spend a bit more time in coastal highway, and search the rest of the houses here before heading back to the lodge. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 11 Author Posted July 11 I started heading back to the lodge, when I found out about the prepper caches being guaranteed in their locations, and heard about the hunting cache, which had the hunter’s revolver in it, so I went to find the nearest prepper bunker location which was near me in mystery lake, and I found the hatch eventually. Which I then immediately entered… to find out it was the exact bunker I was looking for, the hunting bunker! There was good stuff everywhere! It was utterly loaded with food I couldn’t use, and clothes as well. It also had a bow and arrows, which I will try to use some, but more importantly I found the grand prizes inside: the hunter’s revolver and the metric ton of cured hides, which will help me significantly in this challenge. the only bummer is that I couldn’t find any rifle or revolver ammo in this bunker, but the survival bunker has ammo allegedly, so I’ll hunt for that one next. I then made it back to the hunting lodge, my next goal is to make a bunch of clothes out of all the dried hides to deal with the cold better. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 12 Author Posted July 12 I made my first permanent piece of clothing, some deerskin boots, which is one piece of clothing I really needed. Now to make a hat and gloves. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 12 Author Posted July 12 Now that I’m back with a rifle and a bow, I can start to focus on longer term goals, I’ve been shooting ptarmigans which I used to make the down bedroll and with the spare meat, I’m making broth, im planning on making game stews with the broth and flour as I improve my cooking skill. This is the first time that I actually made broth rather than finding it somewhere. In my free time I’ve been crafting the rabbit mittens and hat to further boost my warmth. I’m planning on shooting another bear to get another hide for the bear cloak, and I’ll try to also get a moose for the satchel because I’m missing the extra carry capacity. Now that I’m back home, I can play TLD more frequently, although I’ll also be playing other games intermittently. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 12 Author Posted July 12 I shot the second bear that I needed for the cloak. Unfortunately it will be a while before it’s dry. Next goal: cloaks and pants. e0c6575f-8c53-4f48-af00-fad64279321f.mp4 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 12 Author Posted July 12 I found the prepper cache in forlorn muskeg, it was empty unfortunately. next stop, mountain town, I want to get better underclothes (wool longjohns, cowachian sweaters, etc) and find more ammo before taking on bleak inlet, all this time I’ll be searching for a moose. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 13 Author Posted July 13 (edited) So I forgot to upload everything after this yesterday so here it is: while making my way into mountain town, I found a group of ptarmigans, I didn’t need to kill one for food, so I was curious what the release animation was, here it is. 74f72f57-faac-488b-a56d-12f9a0ffbf6b.mp4 Anyway, so I kept going into the town and searched all the homes, giving me tons of processed food that I can’t eat, and tons of good clothes I can’t use including this expedition parka which hurts to leave behind. so I moved onto finding the prepper cache for the region which is past a small transition cave to the airplane crash from episode 1, in the transition cave, I found a branch that’s smaller than a stick which can still be broken down for three sticks, I find this to be hilarious. I then made my way to the bunker, empty unfortunately. I then realized that there was a cache in HRV so I went to go find it. Which I did after significant effort, to find nothing again, for anyone who doesn’t know, they updated the cache system so that nine bunkers spawn across the map in fixed locations (not the tales bunkers) and three of them have large quantities of valuable gear in them, which is why finding the hunting bunker the first time like I did is very lucky a one in nine chance. Now there is 5 more bunkers and two of them have valuable gear still. I decided to pass time by reading an archery skill book I found, when I discovered a bug, whenever I went inside and back outside, I got 10 skill points in archery for some reason. So I tested to see how far it went and got archery 5 in about 3 minutes. I’m going to report this bug, but I wanted the ability to crouch and fire arrows first, because I’ve never done that before, so now the bow might be worth using. ce3817c9-62ce-44db-a762-83a9e3e3f045.mp4 Edited July 13 by SuperStriker16 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 13 Author Posted July 13 I shot a moose on a side of a hill in mystery lake, I’m going to go back to drop off the hide and make a travois to bring back the 42.5 kilos of meat that it has. 3
SuperStriker16 Posted July 13 Author Posted July 13 Got the meat loaded up, now to try to get back to the lodge. 2
SuperStriker16 Posted July 13 Author Posted July 13 I finally finished my clothing now that i have plenty of food and water. Now off to ash canyon as I really need inventory capacity. 2 1
ManicManiac Posted July 17 Posted July 17 (edited) Well done. I've always favored incorporating these sorts of personal challenges into my runs. Edited July 17 by ManicManiac 1
