Ranzer Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 (edited) I would like to gauge the community's opinion on two aspects of the upcoming cougar removal and iteration. I have attempted to keep the wording as neutral as I can. Edited June 28, 2024 by Ranzer Made second poll question clearer.

From what I saw the issue wasn't that you weren't able to HUNT the cougar exactly, it's just that having it spawn on top of the player with no chance of reaction until after the attack is done wasn't fun. Personally, I don't mind at all it blindsides players, but the blindsiding should still give enough room for a player to react if they are paying enough attention.. or enough for someone to jump out of their skin and have the cougar on them before they can recover 5

rush247 Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 (edited) Resetting the popup for cougar inclusion would probably be a good way to go instead of such an overly harsh decision as removing it entirely. That way players that want it removed can take care of it themselves. Edited June 28, 2024 by rush247 1
Ghurcb Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 I voted for the cougar to be removed until reworked. Not because it's so horrendous that even the possibility of adding it to your world ruins the game. I just believe that if devs don't think the cougar is good, they shouldn't keep it in as a placeholder.
Cattleman Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 (edited) My vote was... 1. Keep current cougar iteration while the rework is being completed. But definetally rework it. 2. Cougar should be able to be killed before a player is attacked... But it should be very difficult to actually accomplish this. Cougars are very stealthy and fast, I think it should only present itself for a very fleeting window of opportunity for a kill shot. Miss and rng could determine if it ramps up its efforts to attach you again in a very short period of time, or immediately charges at full speed for an attack, or just bolts out of sight to resume it's normal stalking. If an attack does occur I think the slow motion shot opportunity should be kept as it currently is... Love that idea. I want to be truly scared when I see this animal, because I know the likelyhood of killing it before it can get me is very low. Edited June 28, 2024 by Cattleman Addition/Clarification
Hinterland Raphael van Lierop Posted June 28, 2024 Hinterland Posted June 28, 2024 You don't need to have a poll. We've already decided to take it out, which I announced 6 hours ago. It's not open for debate. 3 2

Most of the players I've talked to (albeit in a quiet corner of the internet) were surprised and confused by the decision to patch it out entirely, and had been looking forward to seeing the current version for themselves. I appreciate that you listen to the feedback asking for changes, it just seemed kind of overkill to completely remove it in the meantime. 1
Leeanda Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 I think people forgot how much work goes into designing these things... I'm no tech genius ,far from it,but even I know it's not a quick fix for anything... 2

I think you underestimate the amount of hate/anger we have been facing in Steam and other places. It also makes no sense to put time into fixing bugs and dealing with unhappy players while we simultaneously tell them "we're working on something better". Pulling it out of the game is the safest, most reasonable solution that also gives the dev team some breathing room to work on a better version. The idea that we would leave it up to community polls to decide something so important that has such a big impact on our workload is a bit naive, I'm sorry to say. 6 3
