Just tried it in sundered pass.. boy is it tough but so much fun..

Worthy of a challenge all by itself..

I started by jumping off a ledge just below the weather station, but Murphy was having a laugh and I hit the sides on the way down.. a quarter life left I carried on walking for a bit until I reached the final stop(?) cabin.. met old grumpy on the way too

I stripped off the top half of Astrid's clothes and let her freeze to death on the doorstep.

I chose permanent 25%condition loss and a near spawn..  of course by this time it was very dark and thick snow so I had no idea where I was..  completely forgot my gear was on the map,so confused with very little sight and even less gear I ran around for 5 minutes before deciding to go up hill..

By the time I found the cabin again I was nearly dead.. I spent three hours there until my fire went out.

(On a side note ,I had only one tin of food but when I ate it I didn't have a can so I couldn't make any water..a bug perhaps) .

With about 10%health left I wandered trying to find anything anywhere...no sticks or branches around.. I died next to my very cool fire..

This time I chose a safe but far spawn ,expecting to still be in the far Territories but I ended up at broken railroad...

A quick search there left me with not much at all....I'd dragged most of the gear to transfer pass earlier😁

After freezing to death again I choose the same two options again and landed in Milton...

With 25% permanent health left and little resources I decided my poor Astrid had had enough torture. I threw her off the cliff  near the office.

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and I urge anyone who's in doubt to give it a try ..   it's a fun test and could make some very interesting runs..

Thank you hinterland ..it's awesome💗💗

Hmm you say 25% permanent for me it's 35%permanent (I'm playing on stalker) maybe it's different between difficulties?

Well I tried this again as a single challenge run...  Didn't get very far as I soon realised that A..Sundered pass does not have many clothes spawns .and B.  that it's never a good idea to start an already risky challenge somewhere you don't know..😁

After walking for a  short while I found one of the small cabins by the roadside..  even after about 5 real life minutes i had already lost half my life, there wasn't anything in the cabin except a bandage ,a stale chocolate bar ,and a red toolbox...   Oh there were a few flares outside too.

There wasn't enough wood to get a fire going hot enough so I thought I'd try up the hill. By the time I found the avalanche house ,I had frostbite, and just avoided hypothermia..      (side note... As I got inside I fell through the bed and floor to the lower level...will file a report).

All I found were a few bits of food and a decent sweater... It was still minus 1 in there so I ripped a few curtain up and made what gear I had up to new ..but still the temp didn't change...(Not sure if that's intended either)..  I was warm enough ,just ,using the sleeping bag but I wasn't really tired enough.so I left the house ,planning on going to the forest area.. of course the weather got bad,and I got lost 😁.   I froze to death before I found anything recognisable..    I spawned in the dark and heavy snow,no idea where I was.. of course checking the map didn't help so I had no idea where my gear was.. I trudged off blindly seeing nothing until I happened upon a pack of twolves, not long after I heard then saw the bear so i had a rough idea where I was.. with 50% temporary condition already gone i was of course near death again ..  i lit a flare and found the road that led to the last cabin ... I scraped inside with about 2% health left and found a stim .. using that gave me time to get a fire going and break up a bit of wood.. i slept for three hours but didn't get much health back..   i had to leave and find food and wood..    and it was very foggy

Ten minutes later I found myself back in the same route I'd come up from ..I'd gone in a big circle somehow so i made a fire and checked my inventory only to find that i had no bedroll any more...   Exhausted with no more firewood  I set off blindly..  so blindly that I walked off a very high cliff😀😅

I respawned out in the open near the fishing hut ,where I found some cured leather ,one piece of firewood and a can of soda..  hungry, tired and cold I ran back down to the cabin and after climbing inside I started ripping up any cloth I could find to repair what I could..  unfortunately I forgot to keep an eye on the temperature and died while fixing up my sweater😁

That was really tough ,and maybe if I'd been able to find my gear I might've lasted longer...  But it was still great fun ..

I know it's not intended to be a challenge in itself but if anyone is curious how it works then I highly recommend trying it.

@Leeanda

Also, just wonderful to be reading along with you on your adventures.

:coffee::fire::coffee:

Thank you...  It's been a while since I shared my journeys..  given it's cheat death then they're obviously short ones😁

Well, considering the point is to experiment with Cheating Death... then the length of the runs isn't really an important metric. :D

For the most part maybe not 😁.  But which ever percentage in health loss you choose can make a huge difference..   especially if you're not used to feeling like you've gone from pilgrim to loper

For that can of food that didn't yield a recycled can, did you have a knife or can opener?  I recall that if you smash the can open there is no can left to be recycled.

Even if you had one when you started, Cheat Death can mean it got left where you previously died with whatever gear that didn't follow you to the next life.

Glad to see you enjoy the challenge.  It would be way too much for me to endure.

Good luck.

Ah,I'm not sure about that.. I don't think I did...   That would explain it..thank you..

It really does leave you with very little left ..  it's also very hard to work out where the gear is too, especially when there's nothing else on the map and you don't know the place😀

I really do like the challenge...as much as I love pilgrim ,sometimes I just need to test myself ..

Thank you..

I watched a player go through all cheat death chances, using spawn nearby, in Sundered Pass until the final death and there appeared to be a "recovery pack" or such site visible on the map.  He had not mapped the area so it was just a spot on a field of black.  The night weather became a blizzard.  I think that on his next death a new recovery site replaced the previous one though he couldn't get back to even this new site.  On his third death, he didn't even try to get to that recovery site because he had so little that it would not be worth while.  Glad it was not me.

There is that, but unless you map it then it's very hard to find,if not impossible...  Spawning back in at night in bad weather really does make it tough.but I suppose that's part of the choice of near spawns rather than far..

Even in pilgrim it's really hard going.. but I think it can still be fun..  not to everyone's taste maybe though...

I experienced cheat death while trying to do the 3rd tale.

I was trying to mountain goat down one of the cliffs in Sundered Pass only to fall to my death. I chose the near respawn & temporary condition and found myself in the dark and in a blizzard. I walked around for a while, but couldn't find my way. The 2nd time I took the same option with the same result (even though I knew in which general area I was). The final time I chose the safer respawn and landed in the shed in BR. It was a real surprise and because I needed to be in the far territory I was really frustrated.

As a conclusion, it is a really fun & challenging experience & will definitely keep experimenting with it on my saves.
