An idea I think would be really cool would be animals that are one of a kind that you would have to go out of your way to hunt like the ghost stag from story mode or a blind bear that stays in a hushed river valley type cave but can hear really good or a pack of pure black timber wolves that only come out at night and are afraid of any kind of light or a moose that has that zombie deer disease(this is a real thing look it up) and is especially aggressive and maybe with the base customization coming up you could hang a special pelt that you got from them on the wall or make it into a rug.

Eh, I vote "No" on this.

I have no issues with pretending to hunt fictional animals in the game that are out to kill me because something is making them act erratically. Or hunting for food. I started hunting when I was quite young IRL- but never trophy hunting, always sustenance hunting. And that's how I hunt in the game too, I hunt only when I need food. I have no issues with people who killify everything that moves if they want to- play how you want to play. But for me, this is not appealing.

You couldn't kill the Ghost Stag. Even if you shot at it, you could not actually kill it. Maybe if special animals like you are asking for are added, and are treated the same way- these are mythical or legendary animals that you can go find, but you can't kill them, they just despawn after you find them and you get a new crafting recipe or some really special loot item is left behind, I would be fine with that. And tbh- IRL experience with monitoring deer on our property for chronic wasting disease- I am really not comfortable with making light of it, and would not want to touch the carcass or anything that could be harvested from it. No transmission to humans has been recorded yet, but it hasn't been ruled out as being possible either, and the animals that are infected by the prions suffer greatly. It's just not something I can stomach having added to this game, or any other, having been part of monitoring for it and culling hunts due to it.

Different pelt colors for Timbewolves? Okay, I have no issue with that, but why? And changing their behavior, why? We already have Aurora Wolves and Timberwolves that change behavior during an Aurora.

The game is already huge and every time something new is added the chance for game-breaking bugs increases. Maybe more new critters and behaviors should wait for TLD 2, IMHO., and just wait to see how the Cougar is if you have the DLC (and what kinds of bugs pop up, if any).

Gotta second ThePancakeLady here. Adding prion diseases to The Long Dark is a massive ask. We've already got poisoned wolves and a variety of diseases that impact the survivors; I fail to see how gameplay or survival immersion would be enriched by extending this to the wildlife.

I'd like to see the ghost stag again...   It has been mentioned by a few before..

Sticking their heads on the wall would be neat too.

what if instead of killing them we were able to take photographs of the unique animals, or maybe find detailed paintings of them that we could transport back and hang in our base. the ghost deer, the giant killer bear. an orca swimming, stuff from the other tales and maybe a few real life myths-not many obviously but maybe like... 10?
