I'm not sure if i should put this here or in the videos channel, but I came up with a self imposed challenge i havent seen before for survival mode that can be done on all difficulties and is technically doable long term (like hundred days+)
however, i'm not good at the game yet, i have 200 hours on and the furthest i've reached is 27 days on stalker. with this challenge, I'm struggleing to get far before I die on just stalker
so the question remains, should i just upload one of my failed runs where i show how to do the challenge and me trying it (like would people like that?) or should i focus on surviving X amount of days (e.g. 10 days or 25 days)

like I'm not sure yet what people would prefer, so I would like some people's thoughts

If you are comfortable posting it- post it.

I'd like to see how the challenge works, and failed runs can be as good to watch as perfect  ones. Sometimes even more helpful than perfect runs. People can see what worked and what didn't, and start planning their own strategy for an attempt. We all were new to the game at one point in time, and we all had to learn, sometimes the hard way.

As long as you are having fun playing- you are good at the game. It's a singleplayer game- you don't have to compete with anyone, Just have fun. 🙂

Comfortable? I'm not sure I can get any more comfortable anytime soon.
Like the 3 things on my mind I worry about is
1. normally when i play games, even with others, i rarely talk. so i tried to talk more but I ended up talking infrequently so periods of gaps where nothing is happening and im not talking for a couple minutes which i worry will be boring and put people off. but i also feel like editing all those points out will make it too clunky for showcasing the challenge. I just know it will take while to work on this skill
2. I have been doing vocal training but I have a long way to go so i worry the current voice i have being somewhere in the middle will make people uncomfortable or be offputting
3. i tried to make the audio levels of my voice compared to game reasonable but i worry bit off still. but i'd probably need advice from others

but yeah, both first ones are going to take time and trying to do the same challenge with the goal of showcasing it but not till i'm comfortable enough, i will just get too frustrated and give up ever showing it. So i think it's better to just get it ready then post it, even though i worry most people will be turned away from the aforementioned issues i have.
cause i do want to showcase this challenge for others to possibly try and see if they enjoy it

1. Captions overlaid at the top or bottom of the screen (or wherever they don't cover the important stuff you are showing). Give a written description of what is going on or what the rules are, et cetera. (Also a great way to make the video accessible for Deaf or Hard of Hearing viewers- my gf is Deaf, and does play the game using Closed Captioning, but doesn't watch many Lets Play videos because they are often not captioned).

2. See answer #1. If you aren't comfortable with how your voice sounds just yet, Closed Captioning with added captions to give more info can help with that- and there is some really good free Speech To Text software out there so you can speak the text without adding voice to the video. Some may take a little time to train the SW to recognize your voice- the built in Windows STT isn't bad, and trains pretty quickly.

3. That is understandable, and since I don't stream at all, I can't really offer any help with that. And if you aren't comfortable with having strangers hear you speaking right now- go back to answers #1 and #2. Just try to make sure the text is large enough for old eyes like mine to read it without taking up too much screen space, and make sure it isn't too fast for the average person to read.

Best options I can give you right now. Maybe chat with a few of the other streamers here to see how they would handle things.

i will ask a couple questions then
1. my ideas for what should be caption is wolf noises, bear noises, moose noises, crows, and my own dialogue would be the most important to caption but maybe also blizzard rolling in. I also know besides Deaf there is people with audio processing issues that that would help with proper captions too.

2. do you or anyone know what tools for captioning can be used with obs (or any free video editing software cause obs has an issue where i cant record long dark unless fullscreen so i have to edit out beginning and end anyways) whether after the fact or during to help out?

1. You have the right idea about things to caption- having the important ambient sounds, even things like [stomach growling] and the comments the character makes when tired or hungry or thirsty- cues the game gives about your condition [Character- "I can't feel my feet."] and similar. You could record with the game's own Closed Captioning turned on so you don't have to put it all in yourself, just adding additional sounds that the game does not caption- the game's CC has some shortcomings. No speaker labels, no CC for ambient world sounds like crows cawing, wolves growling (and from what direction?), though adding those sounds may give a false impression of what the game actually provides. Unfortunately, most desktop SW for audio processing either costs money for a subscription (while there are some better apps for phones- go figure) or only captions speech using AI and doesn't caption ambient sounds.

You could always make a notation in the video description or intro that you are manually captioning ambient sounds, while the game is closed captioning character speech and sounds to let folks not familiar with the game's CC/Subtitling. My gf rarely plays anything besides Pilgrim or Voyageur because of the lack of ambient sound captioning- and on Voyageur she has to keep the character's head on a swivel. It is better than nothing, but it isn't as good as it could be. But, then again, most of the software available for auto-captioning videos has the same limitations. Life is getting better for Deaf and HoH gamers, but it's not all the way there yet.

2. I honestly don't know anything about OBS- I know of it, not about it or how it works. The last thing I used was ShadowPlay, and that was years and years ago when I was actively modding and wanted to record playtesting videos for mods I was working on, and they were never videos meant for publication.
