Leeanda Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 Not very lol.. but better than rancid meat ...or sardines of any condition.
Serenity Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 They make you thirsty, but otherwise they are excellent food. Very slow decay rate, and lots of calories for the weight. 7 2
Pencil Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 Crackers are one of the best weight to calorie ratios. They have the most calories per kilogram. It's good emergency food. You can eat them after waking up from a long rest when you are already dehydrated, that way it doesn't waste water. I like to eat a small portion of them when I'm not thirsty but I want to drink a coffee or a tea. 6
redpandatrident Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 They're 600 calories for 0.1 kg, plus they don't smell and barely decay, making them basically the best travel food in the game. I almost always save them for later in the game. You can just eat them when you're already dehydrated so you don't waste water. 3 1

Not wise at all, but only because they're so good that you might prefer to keep them for later. 😊 Seriously, the crackers are some of the best food items in the game. Just make sure you have some water to chase them down with. 3
hozz1235 Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a noise? 4
Glflegolas Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 At 6,000 kcal/kg, salty crackers are pretty tough to beat as long as you've got lots of water. Even considering they cost 20% hydration to eat, that's still only 0.13 l of water, so you're still looking at a respectable 2,609 kcal/kg. You could argue that the energy bar is better as it has 5,000 kcal/kg and doesn't make you thirsty, but it does decay somewhat quickly: 0.8% per day inside, 0.4% per day outside. Salty crackers keep forever. 2
Semple Fi Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 Cattail stalks are a close #3, .05kg/150cal. But the lack of thirst puts them 2nd only to the energy bar. So I’d say the crackers are good, just not the best. 2
CandyRacks Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 A perfect travelling food. Good calories, small weight, wolves cant smell it. Sure, they make you thirsty, but I personally dont drnk on Stalker dis and lower until I go to sleep and on loper I travel with adaquate amount of water. Overall, if you got along tarvel ahead and dont expect to find much food wise along the way, this is the food you wanna take 1
Smellyfries Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 I've never gotten sick from Salty Crackers, so if your surrounded by moldy food, and don't want to get sick, Salty Crackers could help you out. Sodas never seem to get you sick either, I've drank 0% sodas and have been fine. 2

Veskaida Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 (edited) Pro Tip: If you eat Salty Crackers, and other -Hydration food when you have no Hydration, it has no drawback! So crunch it down first when you're 0% "Dehydrated" THEN drink after! Salty Crackers are one of the best foods in the game. I'd avoid eating them as much as possible, and instead saving them and carrying a few with you at all times (I like to carry 3-4 on my person) and as late-game emergency food, like e.g. if you get lost in a blizzard with nothing else to eat and are too low Condition to travel. Extremely lightweight Extremely calorie:weight effecient 600 calories per unit is most of a full 10 hour night's rest on Interloper (+1 cattail and you're the golden 750) Doesn't smell Never decays condition Never causes Food Poisoning, regardless of it's condition I always keep Salty Crackers and similar low weight artificial foods for this non-smelly reason. This is a bit less important 'now' with the expansion adding Prepper's Pie, Camber Flight Porridge, and Thomson Stew as similar 'high calorie non-smelly emergency food'.
