Indeed, the greatest mystery of TLD. Where is volume 2?

Live long Sir Uther, live The Hotzn Way!

Whatever happened to @Hotzn, by the way?

DAY 6: After awakening, Uther stepped outside into the beautifully clear, but bitterly cold weather. Dropping all his meat and six of the eight liters of water(!) that he had been lugging around, Uther set his sights on his target for the day:1233A6FE-866B-440E-9485-9C190CC86769.thumb.jpeg.1b42e781e059eba6490515c477f0be58.jpegLittle did he know that he would not reach it.

Uther set out down the railroad tracks, hoping to find a relatively wolf-free path. Alas, it was not to be. The telepathic, precognitive Rusty had organized another “welcome committee”, and was lying in wait.21309E00-1427-44EE-ADFB-94E9CD51CCF3.thumb.jpeg.439f32dd7abba96d82c6a698702b2d19.jpegFortunately, Uther spotted them first. Taking the initiative, he snuck around in a most unknightly fashion, entering the Tram car just as Rusty barked his greetings. ”Excuse me sir, would you be interested in-“D6E2C4BB-819A-4955-A921-1BF3FC674B82.thumb.jpeg.74ddb2025ac546bcb2b534cf5e7142b3.jpegHowever, after it became apparent that Uther was not buying whatever he was selling, Rusty dejectedly turned away. However, as soon as Uther exited the tram, he resumed the chase. “Excuse me sir, would you be interested in-“

Uther bolted down the river, picking up birch bark and picking cattails.
”Excuse me sir, would you be interested in-“

Uther paid Rusty no heed, circled back around the way he came, and headed for Carter Hydro.6FE5881C-491E-4105-BFBF-6712465A54A8.thumb.jpeg.e3750dce689040a4d2719855ea7a5b00.jpeg”Excuse me sir, would you be interested in-“

Still paying no heed, Uther picked Reishi mushrooms and rose hips.
“Excuse me sir, would you be interested in - ah, blast it all anyway! You know where to find me should you change your mind.” And with that, Rusty gave up and walked away. Chuckling lightly, Uther entered the Dam for a quick looting.

Other than a few books and newsprints, the notable finds were a jug of maple syrup and a box of herbal tea. However, cracking the safe rendered Uther exhausted, and I remembered that there were no beds in the Dam. Grumbling, Uther slowly trudged out the building and to one of the trailers. It was not yet dark, so Uther preoccupied himself with making tea. A lot of tea.F3C55ED3-B6E7-46C3-8574-29B73590C8E6.thumb.jpeg.a89f7dacf571c364cc8b9d4490ed4daa.jpegHe got Cooking Level 2 in the process. Nice! As there was still fuel on the fire and light in the day, Uther mapped the local area and pulled a few torches before drinking a cup of tea and turning in for ten hours.

DAY 7: Uther awoke and set his sights on his target: the Forestry Lookout. After a short hike, he reached the Clear Cut, where Rusty was waiting.CB236C59-89C0-4F06-B52C-7C4B4C0704CA.thumb.jpeg.768b774cc5f2d19908eb00b65393a86d.jpeg “Excuse me sir, would you be interested in-“
Uther entered the trailers and looted them, finding nothing but a piece of reclaimed wood a recycled can. A quick nap refreshed his warmth and sleepy-eye. Then, after Rusty had gone away, Uther dropped some stuff off at the broken cabin and continued on his journey. Thankfully, he avoided Mordred’s mistake, and made it to the Forestry Lookout without spraining anything.03E269EE-6876-4BA1-ACDB-900C333E34E5.thumb.jpeg.96bab5c4e6903d460e2c04a1f98e9b7c.jpeg The loot there was a disappointment, even by ‘Loper standards; just a bottle of antiseptic and a copy of Survive the Outdoors! Still no Mag Lens, and Uther had searched nearly everywhere. Except... the destroyed lookout. However, by now, it was getting late, and the weather was worsening, so Uther elected to save time by goating down the slope, arriving at the Tram Car, slamming the door in Rusty’s face just as the blizzard finally struck. DAY 8: Uther awoke rather early because he heard such a clatter that he wondered what was the matter...7A3AD567-4316-47CD-8E2A-5A3E940EDDFB.thumb.jpeg.e2ab8f79e4c397b336779d1acc7e5eb4.jpegYep. ANOTHER blizzard. With mixed emotions, he hiked back to Trappers, picking up a few pieces of Birch Bark on the way. Upon arrival, he made birch bark tea and read both copies of Survive the Outdoors, getting Firestarting Level 2.

By this time, the blizzard had ended, so Uther went out back to go bop bunnies.9BBA73CD-71C7-4224-A6CA-F3652EF61CAC.thumb.jpeg.e3b2750001889911ccbf0bb596f54afc.jpegThe first one was a pushover. However, while Uther was chasing down the second, an aurora announced itself. The aurora-crazed bunny danced, flip-flopped, bounced up and down, and even ran directly through Uther, avoiding his futile attempts at hurling stones all the while. I could swear that at one post I heard it say “meep meep” as it sprinted away in a cloud of kicked up powdery snow.

Discouraged, Uther returned to the Cabin and harvested his rabbit while enjoying the aurora.3B676E6C-7482-4F55-BAB9-47F126367289.thumb.jpeg.62b8cd3f3e6c4419b116b5e7b83c48f7.jpeg1B91CCBA-C462-4A68-803A-663EDDCEFA0B.thumb.jpeg.f5eeb507d1b054ecba43cd5f949f6335.jpegAnd so to bed.

Nice pics🙂. Despite it being a blizzard the camp office one looks very festive.

Can't say I've ever seen any aurora rabbits before. Do they really go nuts?

With that rabbit, it seemed like it!

In the future, I will do some field research by observing the distance at which rabbits notice me, both before and during an aurora. 🧪:rabbit: 🎓

Sounds interesting. I might join you in a manner of speaking.  Plus I want to see a pretty glowing bunny🙂

Watch out, a crazed, glowing Sir Aurora Uther could walk into the night and sign that wolfbite insurance that Rusty is selling.

To be eligible for full wolfbite insurance benefits, a survivor must have no more than fifty (50) percent condition left. Provided that you qualify, you will be visited by your local agent. Should you survive the experience of approval, you will be entitled to a pension of one bandage and one dose of antiseptic daily for the remainder of your (very short) life.

You forgot about the insurance premium:

The survivor shall present 1 (one) opened can of dog food, in at least 15 (fifteen) percent condition, at the locomotive engine near Train Loading Area before dusk on each day until the expiry of the contract or of the survivor, whichever occurs earlier. For the purpose of timekeeping, "dusk" is defined by the survivor saying the phrase "It's getting dark over here". Failure to present the agreed insurance premium by the agreed time on any given day shall result in immediate termination of the contract and of the survivor.

And dispute resolution:

Disputes shall be referred to the independent arbitration team at the Orca Gas Station. The arbitration team shall have 3 (three) seconds for deliberations before presenting and executing their decision. The decision cannot be appealed. The survivor is advised to use the 3 seconds wisely.

We could go on :D

@Drifter Man

We could indeed go on like this forever. However, Uther was getting impatient:

DAY 9: The weather today alternated between near-blizzard conditions and thick, heavy fog, neither of which is conducive to travel, especially in the ‘Keg. Having little else to do, Uther made tea, boiled water, and gathered sticks. The weather finally cleared up in the late evening... much to my chagrin, as Uther had a little more than 25% condition by then.4669DCE9-A240-45BB-AF71-2E05E16417BC.thumb.jpeg.93405e449904079da1241ce84b2293bd.jpegAs darkness settled on Great Bear, Uther sorted through his supplies, discovering that he had only five pieces of scrap metal... enough for four arrow heads and maybe a knife. Sighing, he harvested another bunny and looked at his tea supply to cheer himself up.AE335A2C-3EDE-4736-82BE-43BBC2A35864.thumb.jpeg.37274023af7b5ff0132c823111ddbb94.jpegNow I’m a hoarder.
And so to bed.

DAY 10: Today was a big, and yet simultaneously dull, day for Uther. Lighting up a torch, he left for Milton, in search of a hacksaw. After a fairly uneventful trek through the mountain trail, Uther came to a dead stop at the clearing just below the Ranger Station. The reason? He was encumbered with firewood. So, to remedy the problem, he lit a total of four three-hour long fires with his torch, and passed the time by bopping bunnies and making tea with matches borrowed from the cave’s permanent resident.
After setting up his snow shelter, Uther kept the fire going all night, sleeping in 3-hour increments to avoid freezing to death (Gawain, anyone?).743C6922-1EBA-424C-99EC-779B53222126.thumb.jpeg.e7ca172db7f5782ca6729977c21e9ce1.jpeg

DAY 11: Today was another dull day for Uther. After making a quick search of the Ranger Station (finding a tin of coffee and a piece of scrap metal), he set out for the town itself, bagging two more bunnies on the way down to Orca and kicking himself when he realized that he had left his pry bar back at Trappers.
Long story short, he avoided the wolves and made a beeline to Grey Mother’s House, finding another cooking pot, some peaches,  and a cup of coffee. He then commenced with the long task of making coffe and harvesting rabbits, drank a cup of herbal tea, and hit the sack. CE195F09-2BE1-4884-AECD-ED94BBA94869.thumb.jpeg.7ebb327941691aeff45e91f734f2e71b.jpegE4EFEB10-1515-46D1-AB09-F9EEE8A888D2.thumb.jpeg.31ea59eab26597b36c7afc3a4528eba5.jpeg

:fire: :coffee: :fire:
I think that I will give Uther a break and begin the Neo-Native Challenge. Look put for the topic in the Survival Mode subforum.
