Icebreaking with crowbar

I think I should be able to break the ice of an ice fishing hole with a crowbar.

You can even break the ice with a simple fir wood if you are determined enough.

Maybe.. But If it drops down to -30 C overnight, the ice in an ice fishing hole could be 15 cm thick-- thicker if the hole hasn't been opened in a while. And from the looks of it, those holes haven't been used in a while.

Since there are ice fishing huts all over, why not have an ice auger? = ice fishing wherever you want on the lake

Wouldn't an auger open you up to a ton of wolves.

One would think one would find a hand auger in the vicinity with all those icefishing shacks around.
