What about adding a new item, energy drinks? They won't be so frequent, but they won't be so rare either. There will be both positive and negative effects.
Positive: when consumed, the scales of hunger, thirst and fatigue will increase.
Cons: after the positive effect is completed, the fatigue scale will quickly deplete in the ratio of 1.25 of the energy drink received earlier (why 1.25? Yes, because after using it in real life, a person after some time begins to feel sleepy, which is why I chose this ratio). Addiction is a new negative effect that, with a large number of energy drinks consumed, gives less benefit from this item and also consumes the fatigue scale faster.

A GO! energy drink is a drink item in The Long Dark . Drinking a GO! energy drink will improve Hunger and Thirst, and it provide a bonus to Fatigue and Stamina through the benefits Energy boost for 30 min and Fatigue reduction for 45 min. When the duration of Energy boost is over, it causes a Headache Affliction .
