R0ughHab1tz
I've searched up this topic before writing this and it didn't come up with anything. the title pretty much explains it. It could be possible couldn't it? I just got this game too and I'm super excited that it's Canadian!! Glad my money stayed in my country :). 1

This is an issue with the game currently is the longer you play the more familiar you'll become to a point where eventually you'll learn where everything can spawn making the game pretty easy. When you first start off you don't know where anything is so survival can be a proper challenge but after some time you will learn where the rifle can spawn, you would know where to find deer, you'll know where wolves patrol, etc. I would love a randomly generated map but with hinterlands small team I don't think it's feasible. Instead of a random generated world a randomly generated loot table could be just as good but more feasible. That way the items can spawn anywhere and have no specific spawn areas, wildlife can be anywhere, wolf patrols could very, etc. This would make each run feel more or less completely new only familiarity would be the map itself. Lohaan
Part of the survival experience is learning how to navigate via the iconic landmarks in the game. Random maps won't have these iconic locations nor the same appeal. It would be a totally different experience. Great Bear Island in itself is iconic. This is a bit like one of the ideas of having jump...or binoculars. It sounds good in theory but once you have it, it turns out the novelty wears off fast. But...imagine World of Warcraft with random maps...or Skyrim. Imagine having The Long Dark without the Lonely Lighthouse in DP, or the Mountaineer's Hut in TWM...or Trapper's in ML. Only 3 of the many well thought out, iconic, strategically placed locations. Strange this topic doesn't actually yield any results in search...I couldn't find any either. It's come up many times. This is a reply with your hinterland team size and time: I forget what section I posted but I asked the question on how we can support this game other then the Initial purchase. I know people will scream at me about micro transactions or paying more after the fact but I would have gladly payed $5 for each episode of the story mode. It's so well done I think it deserves it.. or at least an option to donate to the team. This game has been out for a very long time. I'm really enjoying it and wish I had discovered it sooner. Lots can be added and if money is the issue that goes with time I would gladly support it.

I'm not suggesting the regular game be completely taken out. But a separate section with a random map generator with the custom section of the difficulty level could be put in. if you end up landing on an extremely great unique map you can share with friends a specific code to it. This would ultimately lead for you to go back to it if you ever lose your save or anything like that. Ie. Survival mode deleting the file after death I'm sure all this would take alot of time and money and it probably won't happen but we can at least put the ideas out in the world. Derek0311
@R0ughHab1tz I like the idea. Maybe it could be a zone off to the side where the entrance is always the same. Instead of random generated, how about it being a map that could be any one of a number of large wilderness maps? So, something less intensive as random; but will still give you the idea of not knowing where everything is. For the sake of argument, call it 9 maps broken into 3 families. Each family is identical but buildings move around inside them. So you get 9 unique maps in a manageable way. Also, don’t worry about balance in this zone. Building location doesn’t matter. Change the numbers as you like. In this way our games probably won’t look the same in a particular zone. Is this something kind of like what you are looking for or do you truly want random? R0ughHab1tz
@Derek0311 Any idea is welcome as a random element to the game. Right now it's sort of random to me. I've found rifles galore in this play through but not once have I found a revolver. In the previous survival run I found the rifle and revolver in the same spot. Not everything is in the same spot each time you play. Example would be the key to the farm. It's either in the truck or behind the cabin. So technically it's already random. I'm just thinking a random map generator. Different terrain buildings etc etc etc. Maybe someone will get lucky and land on a map with everything included. Maybe a forge won't be around. Maybe rabbits won't be around. The random could be anything. Possibilities are endless really. The team could even make the map as big as all these areas we have now but combined into one large map that way they wouldn't have to make all these different separate areas. Then make it random. Like I said the possibilities are endless.

Like I said the possibilities are endless. Some interesting points. Personally, i love random generated content. Re-pleyability and near-unlimited exploration. The way it is now, AFAIK, there is already a core randomizer for many elements (loot, wolves areas, rabbit spots, bear dens, even some houses that could come burned or blocked) Maybe u are thinking in some random generation for the geography itself. It could be hard to implement, unless it comes as a new game mode, in which the map would be made of premade tiles, containing spawning spots for this or that element. But turn EVERYTHING into procedural would be a huge task. And about combining all areas in a single-loaded world map... well, this would make my bread pc to explode in seconds =D
R0ughHab1tz
I don't think it would make it explode. Minecraft does this pretty easily. Albeit it is just blocks etc but if they implemented a certain area be loaded at a time then I'm sure it could work out. If I had any programming skills I would definitely donate my time to make it a reality. Ohhhwell. They said on the latest journal that they might try to implement MOD support but because of unity it might not be possible. So we might see LTD migrate away from it if we ever do get community support modding.
