Rabbitskin hat and mitts "in progress"

In Wintermute, I crafted a rabbitskin hat and mitts on the workbench.  But I can't wear them because they are "in progress."  Do I have to cure them or put them next to a fire?  Or wait a few days?

You simply did not complete the making of the item.  Go back to the work bench and do a bit more work on it.

If you put them next to the fire, they'll turn into 'toasty' rabbitskin hat and gloves. Mmm... Now where are those rabbit skins slippers...

The workbench will tell you how much time is left when you select what you want to work on. For example, deerskin pants takes 12.5 hours with a sewing kit. A hook is wayyyy longer. You can also change how long you work the item.
