I've tried with the bow, the arrow just broke.
But the revolver did the trick. Except that the bear didn't bleed out 'cause I had to go back inside to get warmer, and the 2 years old bug that makes bears respawn is still operating...

That 'animals magically heal if you go indoors' bug is a lot older than 2 years. It's been in the game 3.5 years that I know of personally.. back from when I first got the game in beta.
