I loved it. I didn't read anything about it to avoid spoiling.

I was in Pleasant Valley on Aurora, moving to Farmstead, unknowing of what was coming next, I killed 5 Timberwolves. My only regret is that I played it as usual, even started curing the wolve skins lol.

This year was the first time i tried 4Don and even though i like the idea of it my experience wasn't that great

first thing i noticed was no difficulty option even if it only affected the amount of loot which imo there was WAY too much of

and the second problem was that i didn't encounter 1 animal the whole time, i traveled all over the maps on day 1,2, and 3 and nothing.

I feel with a little tweaking this mode would be much better even if they just add a loot percentage option like 100% 75% 50% 25% I understand that it's just for fun but as an interloper player this feels like pilgrim mode

My registration wasn't approved in time to post during the event, but it was a lot of fun to come back to the game to after a couple years away. I didn't make it to MT but had fun exploring everywhere else. No revolver was a bit sad, but with 60 or so rifle shots I wasn't worried about keeping myself entertained.

Pumpkin-hunting carried over into day two. The 4DON announcement said there were only 2-3 per region, but I noticed lots of people here saying they found more, or found ones in places they'd already been and assumed they missed. They might not have. The third cache I found in PV was by the farmhouse just on the other side of the river, and I'd passed by there a dozen times without seeing it so I knew right away it wasn't there before. It was a clear night so I looked over to the cache across from the path up to Signal Hill, and... it was gone? It would be reasonable for different runs to have different caches, but were they changing mid-event? I went back up to Signal Hill and immediately proved myself right by finding a 4th cache that wasn't there on my last visit. So it was cool to eventually get 5 caches in PV, but I already spent hours in ML dancing with wolves and only found 1, so I can't help but wonder how many cache spawns I didn't get to find because the pumpkins were on their lunch break.

Day 3 was the man-vs-nature battle I expected only better (worse). I hadn't messed with aurora wolves since Wintermute only came in easymode, so in my first struggle I was NOT expecting to lose 85% condition and nearly black out. It's a good thing I grabbed some combat boots and gauntlets from Signal Hill on my 2nd trip, I think they saved me. No wonder everyone stays indoors during auroras. When I ran out of bullets I stayed close to camp and got a few resource-intense achievements like Resolute Outfitter and Deep Woods.

I am not yet savvy enough to wander around in blizzards, so I spent day 4 in the farmhouse with my clothes on or by the fire barrel with my clothes off. This was to make some progress toward Cold Fusion, and it turns out if you stand in a blizzard for 12 hours your clothes will melt off your body, which is a funny mental image.

In conclusion, I had fun and am glad so did everyone else. I hope there's a revolver next year.

  • 5 months later...

I was planning on actually playing during 4DON, but due to a busy schedule I did it the boring way:

Day 1 I gathered all supplies I could and eventually settled in Thomson's crossing.

The remaining days I logged on my character and just left the computer for two hours idling. I checked every 30 min or so to make sure he had food and water, but that's it. Then the badges popped. Very boring way to do it, but it worked.
