About a week ago I was surprised by a bear that crested a hill (nearby waterfall masked the bear sounds) and in desperation I pulled out my revolver and hip fired all six rounds into the bear, but it wasn't enough. (Even at level 5!) So I started basically circle-strafing the bear as I reloaded the revolver, somehow moving just fast enough that the bear wasn't able to "lock on" and we were basically orbiting each other around an empty center of mass. I was able to put another 3 rounds into ol' fuzzy, shooting from the hip, and he finally dropped. For all intents and purposes I killed that bear in melee, and I have NO idea how he didn't maul me.
ajb1978
Found myself a nice cozy little place to call home at the Bleak Inlet. And look, it's even festive! Christmas lights! 6
Morrick
Some initial views of Bleak Inlet. Pensive Lookout, crack of dawn. Maybe it's too early to venture outside... Pensive Lookout: later, in the hazy morning, a distant view. The valley below, as seen from the Echo One Radio Tower. Bleak weather for Bleak Inlet: This is already becoming my favourite region. On Pilgrim, of course.
ThePancakeLady
Since no one else is spoiler tagging their shots of the new region, I guess i won't bother either. Hopefully people who have not yet explored BI yet, won't look here, knowing there might be spoilers. That said... I am a tad obsessed with looking at all of the graffiti... And I got a kick out of the alternative use of this rifle rack...

ThePancakeLady
When the day starts like this, and you feel confident with your rifle and 3 rounds of ammo, lol... And you manage to get past the guard doggies, with a flare, and all of your ammo... And the night brings this- And you can hear them, on the other side of that rock. And decide to cry like a baby and run back into the trailer before the morale meter shows up... ...because you know it will. You didn't kill them all when you got here earlier, after all. ThePancakeLady
@Morrick - I love, love, love the first one so much! Not just the beautiful framing you did with the broken lighthouse, but those colors. Spectacular shot. All of them are great, you have a good eye, and really frame your shots well. Morrick
@ThePancakeLady Thank you wholeheartedly for your kind words. This game is so beautiful that it has turned me into a screenshot addict. The only other game I had ever captured screenshots before was Half-Life 2 and its two Episodes. There are probably many other games that are more impressive visually than The Long Dark, but the way their gameplay is engineered doesn't really invite sightseeing, so to speak. Morrick
This was taken during some perilous nighttime wandering, after falling into thin ice, and trying to reach a good spot to light a fire. The 'Feels Like' was -39°C. (I hope I'm not spamming this thread too much with my screenshots…) Edited December 15, 2019 by Morrick 2

More melee weapons! I had the same thought, and was disappointed we cannot interact with them, even to harvest them for reclaimed wood. Not a *huge* hockey fan ( Go Penguins! ), but I have seen some of the damage done by players swinging those things at each other. Should at least break morale faster than throwing stones, lol. ThePancakeLady
Started a new run, to get my survivor kitted out a bit better before heading back into Bleak Inlet. Started in ML, and 2 long-lasting Auroras within the first week. The game just looks better and better with each update. Even when you see the glowing freight train of hate and hunger coming to get you (which might explain why I saw no wolves?)

Morrick
Did I mention I love the light in this game? A special mention to the cabin at the Cannery Worker Residences, which just saved my life. I was exploring the area roughly beneath the radio tower, in seach of a possible shortcut to the exit to Forlorn Muskeg. Night came, but I was well-equipped, so I started a good fire, warmed up my tea, ate some food. Sky was clear, and soon an aurora came. I went to bed, only to wake up a few hours later freezing and caught in a bastard blizzard. I figured it was more or less a straight line to the Cannery Worker Residences, so I started marching on. Most of my outer clothes were 85-88% frozen, my Hypothermia Risk meter was at about 75%, and when I took this screenshot the 'Feels Like' was -62°C. Good thing I had stocked a few fir logs and lumps of coal in there. The blizzard went on for the best part of the afternoon, but I emerged in the early evening, dry and mostly unscathed, with all my outer clothes repaired. This is the fourth time Bleak Inlet tries to kill me since I came. 7

ajb1978
OOOH YEAAAAAHH CAIRN #1 IS BACK BABY!!! 100% completion run: FINISHED! (Edit: At least, I think. It's kinda hard to tell when you're getting results of 16/13 and 71/31, but I'm a good 95% sure this is everything.)
