Regarding the Aurora during Renewed Hope?

Just wondering, is the aurora active just the first night or does it continue?

After the first night the Aurora acts normally - meaning you have to wait for it.  I shot a deer and had a cookout with Methuselah at his perma fire for three days before I got in in my game.

I may have to do that too. At least I won't have to worry about firewood.

Yeah it is a bit of janky design by Hinterland.  IMO you should get an aurora every night during this phase.

Nah I prefer it the way it is.

Let's be honest it's one of the few times we need to do survival mode stuff.

Also at this time there are also a number of quests you still have to do if you want to complete as much as possible.

I have at least 4 Quests I want to complete before I head to the dam.
