I swore I would never go back there. But now I'm desperate about finding a can opener. I know they're found in houses, but that's the definition of desperation. I have no other place on the map where I could find something... Funny thing, now in my mind Scruffy is a female who's here protected baby wolves. And the babies play with a can opener I need. BareSkin
20 days in a Desolation-Point only is an achievement for me, but much easier than a snowball thanks to the indoors and tons of reclaimed available. After sleepwalker, Interloper seems really cheated. After that, I had no more pages to write down the journal (understand: there's a limit to how many characters a journal can contain). If people are interested, there's a picture-log available.

Dan_
This was very enjoyable to read, thanks for sharing. Kill stealing is a phenomenal way to get calories early game, very smart move. Crafting with fishing line? Now that's something truly painful.

The most painful on this run (not yet finished) is having fires that make only .5L water every 40minutes. The kill steal is truly powerful, it solved nearly all my problems except the water one of course ( which is a matches one essentially).

BareSkin
There's no more clothing to be found in Desolation Point, and no weapon to be able to raft a wolf jacket. Not sure I'll play this Bareskin more, since I can't fight Cabin Fever and Frostbite at the same time. With a 33% firestarter at remaining ignition and abusing Loper starvation (I have tons of fuel and food), I guess I could go to maybe Day 40, probably. Now that I got [Fire Master] and [Efficient Machine], I have no reason to continue this Bareskin15-DesolationPoint only Interloper run. Hope you enjoyed

BareSkin
Bareskin20? His life was so short/intense that I didn't even take a screenshot. By deduction I think he was a Skater [Muskeg only], arrive nearly dead at Poacher's, and died torch in hand going to the Spence's matches, running upon weak ice. Not quickly enough. Edit: found a Bask21 shot in bask22 folder (before arriving at Poacher's, from the waterfall) Bareskin 21 was a Snowball He learnt that wool scarf repels snow, and that having an outside fire isn't really useful in the long term: the turning winds makes the fuel economy not worth it. BareSkin
Bareskin 22 was a Snowball who spawned near 3WC and did manage to place a rope under Eric's, but payed it with severe health loss. Died in his bed while betting a bit too much on sleeping times.
Senauer
@BareSkin, first things first, thanks for a really enjoyable read! Even though you are more focused now in "sleepwalking", your stories in this thread, and more specifically the story of BareSkin7, has inspired me to write something that I had in mind for quite some time. It has taken me a while to sit down and put everything together, plus our life during the last few weeks has been a bit hectic, but I think I finally came up with the final cut. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed your adventures! The full story can be found here: As I did plan it to be read as a short tale, I have not included any screenshots on it. However, I think you may like the teaser of the whole thing. See below! -----o----- After drifting through deep snow for what resembles an eternity, I reach a lamp post standing over a worn sign. Mystery Lake-Lac Mystère. Behind, a wooden two-story cabin stares at me, its hollow windows two questioning eyes. I hear the crows even before I see them. The squawks seem to come from somewhere within the lake. I slowly approach the shore and scrutinize into the distance. There they are, circling above one of the fishing huts. As I finally advance on the hut an unsettling scene comes to view. Two corpses rest a few steps from each other. No, wait. One is an animal carcass. A wolf. The struggle must have been brutal. I kneel down and inspect the pool of frozen blood where it fell dead. A rotten hunting knife lays beside its eviscerated bowels. It looks like the wolf took him by surprise and he was forced to a hand-to-hand fight. But the beast had found a worthy foe and it had paid dearly such a defiance. Harnessing the first rays of the rising sun, I use the lens and the acquired fuel to set alight the campfire once more. I use one of the hunter’s pelts to cover his body and arrange his tools and weapons close to him. Who knows, he could need them wherever he may go now. I leave the fire to burn and consume itself, a beacon to guide him in his final journey. Then, I dedicate him one comforting thought and, eventually, I bid farewell. I look back one last time. BareSkin
BareSkin 23 is my second try at the [DeadMan Challenge]! [Efficient Machine][Cold Fusion] Day1 Same spawn as first Deadman who was a woman – near Katie's, Desolation Point, nightfall. I don’t even think about the Lighthouse for now, too wolfy. The guy smells me from 1km, I can see him going for me, even if of course I’m not smelly. Takes me an eternity to reach the Riken, facing the winds and the snow. Suffer 3% hypo before being able to enter a bed. I don’t find anything except peaches and the coal in there, and soon I’ll be dehydrated. I smash open the peaches for hydration. I have to transfer the Hibernia at midnight, and get hyporisk as soon as I head outside. I run into Hibernia with 87% of my life, nothing in the lockers but a soda helps me clear this red hydration bar. Freezing inside the building, but there's no clothing at Astrid’s place, only useless antibiotics. Work gloves on the bench, nice! Thin wool sweater (56%) and work boots (61%) in the safe, which brings me to positive FL. Find matches and light up the barrel for water and torches. Bareskin 23 - day2 [DeadMan Challenge]! [Efficient Machine][Cold Fusion] Loot the trailers near hibernia, to find nothing. Eat 58% sardines and get food poisoning! Astrid’s antibiotics, wait for exhaustion be be worth 10h of sleep. Sneak out of Hibernia at nightfall, get barked at on the road, exit the struggle (prybar) with 52% health, no blood loss no infection. Find Catherine in the mine and tons of coal. Crumbling highway, I sneak into the basement I find very poor clothing (t-shirt), nothing else except a warm place. Make a torch with the t-shirt and lamp oil found on my way (I have no lantern), harvest leather shoes to regain a bit of warmth, and go outside towards Coastal Highway in the deep snowing night. But there’s a carcass, and I’m in dehydration already: I drop shielded fire here with my lit torch. I make a shielded fire, make water and eat 1.4kg venison, take the hide bare hands then wait for dawn the sneak into one of the coastal house for a very needed sleep. I leave this fire at 45% health, exhausted but prevented dehydration and starvation.
BareSkin
Barskin23- day3 [DeadMan Challenge] [Efficient Machine][Cold Fusion] At dawn I’m greeted by a blizzard during the coldest hour, but my fire is protected: I’ll stay here consuming coal and making water and pray for the winds not to turn. Exhaustion is better than death, and in a dawn blizzard I’ll be frozen before even reaching Coastal Highway. Winds die 15 minutes before my fire, I hurry up to the coastal houses: they are all burnt! Doomned! I run back to the car, start a fire (3 attempts), lose a lot of health before being able to drop a coal, sleep 1h in the car, praying winds don’t kill the fire. Works fine, one more hour of sleep, complete warmth bar so I head towards Misanthrope’s shore-side. I end up blocked by the Coastal wolf on shore side, and the bear on the road side. I have to wait for the wolf to turn his back and look my warmth bar deplete despite the reishi warmup. My eyes are bleeding. Misanthrope gives me a bed, warmth, and wool socks. The nearby fishut give me cedar and sewing kit. I NEEDED the sewing kit really bad. The Jacket now has five members, I visit two more fishuts on my way to Jackrabbits, the last meters are awful, the very nice weather changed to a facing wind which makes me lose a bit more health. I wonder if I can survive 27 days at JackRabbit’s, since I already lost a lot of health. In a Grandma, I snap the nearby rabbit. I hesitate a long time before deciding to harvest the gut. No, at 23% health I can’t go much further. I’m betting on snares, tomorrow I’ll follow the river upstream for cattails. I’m at 20% only when I can begin to cook the rabbit. I’ll be starved before getting to the river, because there was only 1 rabbit here. The others have been chased by wolves. The firestriker on the corpse costs me 1% due to light fall, plus things that will heal during the night or be sewed back. Tomorrow morning I’ll repair clothes before going to the river after noon, weather permitting. The absence of shelter upon entering Coastal Highway in the cold morning was a mix of bad timing and pure lack of luck. Had a house been here, I'd still be around 50% health, and my goal would still be Trapper's. Barskin23- day4 [DeadMan Challenge] [Efficient Machine][Cold Fusion] I leave after noon, at Fishing camp I find a down vest in poor state. No food. The plan was to start from the river end, but it was guarded. I head to the cabin in the hill across the road after grabbing the hammer under the bench, to find out that… the cabin is burnt, and guarded! I run to break line of sight behind a rock, it works, and up straight to Rabbit Groove for shelter. I go outdoors to grab some cattails to end my starvation. Man, I really don't have luck with shelters on this run. 12% health after sleeping. Didn't take the high thirst rate of Deadman into account during my last sleep at JackRabbit's. It’s bad. After nightfall, there’s an aurora, and I decide instead of continuing the upstream river to go to Campground, I heard crows there. I make my fire near the carcass and cook the 2 rabbits I snapped, plus the deer. The fire is killed by strong winds just when the last steak finished cooking. Like really, at the very same minute. Gods like me. I made a wolf friend during my fire-work, so I eat everything and go back the the cabin for sleeping.
