Question Thread :: Milton Mailbag

With the advent of Crossroads Elegy, I do have a couple of questions that are relevant to what I'm doing in my current survival sandbox run:

- Will the potential updates to the Pleasant Valley region impact the requirements for the Faithful Cartographer achievement?
- If so, for those of us that have already mapped out Pleasant Valley (or most of it in my case) would we be able to go to the new/updated locations and be able to update the map to reflect those changes?

[Context]
I've had experiences in the past where once an area was mapped I wasn't able to "update" what was showing on the map to make it current (for example - I found a prop carcass, harvested it... but then when I used charcoal to update that spot, the mark of the carcass still remained on my map even though it was long gone).

Hello Raph,

If I remember well, a lot of new feature that came in the game were previously teased in the world of the game, by items themselves but unusable: examples of cooking pots and "massettes" (bulrushes in english ?)

And, there is a lot of time now we can see soaps in interiors.

Is it crazy to anticipate and phantasm there will be an update with an hygiene system ?

Thank you,

PS : I hope the climate is not to disordered in Canada. Here in France, nature suffer from an unsual hot climate. Worrying.

How does the spawning of bears work? My 2 theories are that, 1 the bears will remain the same for example if i see the bear at trappers cabin and not at mystery lake near the lone lake cabin will it forever be that there will never be a bear near the lone lake cabin and the bear near trappers cabin will always be roaming around the area or resting in his den. Theory 2 each of the bear dens always has a bear but the bear is resting for most of the time so i wont see it near the lone lake cabin often.

Any chance we could get a synthetic version of the moose hide satchel? something man made like either an improvement to your pack adding extra pockets or a man-made satchel you could find in homes that you could assign to the accessories slot much like the moose hide but with less of a bonus, say 3.5 kilos perhaps? maybe something like the image below.

P.S. How is Canada's weather right now? we have had an unusually hot October down here in Georgia (the state) with an October that started at 90 degrees and then went down to about 65 degrees Fahrenheit in a couple of days, pretty worrysome.

Hey Raph!

Did you hide any loot-container in the game that is nearly impossible to find? I wonder around and search every corner if some of you guys from the design team hid something under a rock or a hidden space. So far there are two options: 1- There is no secret to be found 2- You hid it so well that noone ever found it.

Thanks for this awesome game, yet again!

Hello Raph,

Firstly I want to congratulate the team for the great work and say that I really love this game and can't wait to play Episode 3. My questions are:

1) Will We have 4DON this year? I ask this because  of the release date of Episode 3.

2) I know the revolver wasn't made for that purpose, but is it "possible" to kill or make a bear bleed with the revolver? I would like to know before risking my life vainly.

Raphael, have you considered using the railroad for travel in a future story episode? The canfor crummy's and the hyrail pickups are already in game, but there's also much smaller "speeders" that would be a fun and useful way to travel around on the RR. I work for a railroad in Washington State and we had one we used for a while, a Fairmont S2 with a 1 cylinder 2 stroke engine that dates back to the 1930's. They're cantankerous, smokey, and yet completely endearing. Old timers call them "put-put" cars, and that's exactly what they sound like. I've attached a couple of photos of the car we used to run, and a video of it.

Firstly, congrats on the 5 years! I for one am very happy to see Hinterland still defying death in such an inhospitable environment. Folks of my own heart, to be honest.  :birthday kiss: MMWAH!

Now the question: With the dawn of the Episode 3 update, what changes are happening to the survival maps? I have a lot of stuff in Pleasant Valley and I need to know ASAP what areas might get an inventory deletion with any map changes.... please, dude. Just tell me which areas are getting "thanosed".

You mentioned before that you prefer to give us a bit of heads-up if things change, so please... any info would be appreciated.

Hey Raph!

I recently found the Signal Hill Radio podcast that you guys did for a while last year, and I really enjoyed the window into your guys' thoughts and views on the plethora of things you discussed. Have you thought or considered bringing that back once you have time?

Really looking forward to episode 3!

Hey. I have a question about Fishing hut in the area of Timberwolf Mountain.
From Climber's journal page it is known that the plane went down September 5. The cause of the crash is probably due to Aurora. Was the ice already strong enough to set up a fisherman's hut? And if the plane went down before known events, who is the owner of the hut?

P.S.1

I will leave the Russian version of the question. Suddenly there will be someone who will translate more well.

P.S.2

When will the notes be translated into Russian?

Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed playing episode 3 so far, but I have a question about one of the points in a mission

Spoiler Warning! ⚠️

On the mission Fallen Star, when trying to carry Gwen to the community center, it seems that I have to fight a pack of Timberwolves every 20 seconds or so. As soon as I pick her up and get a little ground, I hear the same violin music start indicating a wolf attack. I haven’t even gotten to the first fork in the river because I keep getting killed by Timberwolves. I’ve ran out of flare gun shells, revolver rounds, red flares, and have 2 marine flares left. I have it on green survivor difficulty too. So could you possibly tweak it so that wolf attacks don’t happen as often? Thanks 🙂

Raph, let me start out by saying I am absolutely adoring everything in Crossroads Elegy.  Thank you, it's wonderful!  On to the question:

I do like the new intro music and menu screen/scene... but will the classic music and view be coming back later on?
(as much as I enjoy the new, I admit I already miss the classic... I would always just sit and let that theme play from start to finish before jumping into my save)

Hey there! Keep up the awesome work!

I was wondering if you guys would ever add a "side note" when you click on a carcass that let's you know where you hit the animal. (example: "you see that your bullet/arrow hit the wolf in the chest"). Because I know critical hits allow you to kill a wolf for example in the head and sometimes the chest...just curious if you might add that so that we could see if it was a chest shot but a lucky critical!  (A bit nit picky, but hey I thought I'd throw it out there).  Can't wait for the next survival update! currently playing episode 3!

Dear Raph,

Congratulations on Episode 3. Not only is it probably my favorite story episode yet, this update was also a nice sprucing up of things. I quite like the new flora and fauna assets and the new sounds, as well as the new items and gameplay mechanics- my favorite being the rescue of the survivors from the airliner crash. Carrying someone who's helpless gives the mission a real sense of urgency.

My question is:

Were you nervous about making the survivor rescue missions considering the sometimes unfriendly reactions to "escort missions" in other games?
